Sherrie Rae Myers' Obituary
Sherrie Rae Myers, 80, passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home in Stansbury Park, Utah, on May 12, 2026.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Phyllis Hansen, and Samuel “Tommy” Oakley, and her husband, Gary Harlow Myers.
She is survived buy her sister Michelle Sterling of Fort Collins, Colorado - Her three children, Kristen Myers of Stansbury Park, Utah; Spencer Myers of Fort Collins, Colorado and Sean Myers of Denver, Colorado.
She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Draven Myers of Fort Collins, Colorado and Jordan, Scarlett and Summer Spell of Stansbury Park Utah. She kept in close contact with many of her cousins and extended family over the years. She will be dearly missed.
Sherrie Rae Oakley was born September 14, 1945 in Clear Creek, Utah - A coal mining town in the mountains between Provo and Salt Lake City. She spent the first 12 years of her life running freely in the small town, riding horses and enjoying the simple things in life. She resided, mainly with her maternal grandmother and grandfather, Ardee & Elsie Hansen.
In 1957 she moved with her mother Phyllis, stepfather, Malcolm “Sonny” Edminston, and her sister Michelle to Texas, where she relocated between a few small towns, such as El Dorado Sonora and Ozona, Texas. She graduated high school in 1963 from Ozona High School.
For the next few years, she lived in and around Texas until moving to Greeley, Colorado to be near her uncle Ray & Aunt Connie Hansen.
She worked as a waitress at Bruce’s Bar in Severance, CO & later as an administrative assistant to the Dean at Aimes community college from 1971 to 1978. This is where she met and married her husband, Gary Harlow Myers - on March 27, 1976 at her Aunt Connie & Uncle Ray’s home.
They were then sealed in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 27, 1981. Gary was a painting contractor who found much success in his entrepreneurial business.
His work took them all over the United States from Colorado to Texas, California, Kansas and Utah. After Gary’s death in 1996, Sherrie moved back to Fort Collins, Colorado & worked for Colorado State University until 2008 when she retired.
Sherrie made several trips to Texas and California between 2008 and 2015 to visit her daughter Kristen and her grandchildren. She was present at the births of all of her grandchildren.
She only recently moved to Stansbury Park, Utah in October 2025 with her daughter Kristen. She enjoyed the last few months of her life with her grandchildren and daughter. Prior to that she lived with her sister Michelle & brother-in-law Dave Sterling and her son Spencer for over 10 years in Fort Collins, CO.
Sherrie lived a full life. She enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Hawaii. She also enjoyed visiting Branson, Missouri and attended many concerts at the Hollywood Bowl while living in California.
She saw Elvis in concert twice, a lifelong Elvis fan- these were some of her most treasured memories.
She loved music, animals, horseback riding and played the piano. She was very passionate about politics and was a dedicated reader, reading up to 4-5 books a week. Sherrie was quiet and had a very sweet, generous spirit. She rarely missed a birthday or anniversary, sending out countless cards & letters to her loved ones through the years.
She loved her family dearly and kept in close touch with a few close lifelong friends.
Her remains will be buried next to her husband in Fort Collins, Colorado at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery. Details of her graveside dedication will be announced in a few months.
