Silvia McAffee Nuckles' Obituary
Silvia McAffee Nuckles
1945 - 2020
Silvia McAffee Nuckles, 75, of American Fork, Utah passed away surrounded by her family on October 25, 2020. She was born in Lehi, Utah on June 27, 1945 to Boyd Harman McAffee and Louise Schow. She lived in Provo, Utah until age 8 when her family moved to Iran for two years. She returned to Provo at age 10 and completed school there, graduating from B.Y. High School in 1963. She attended Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development & Family Relations and Elementary Education in 1968. After earning her degree, she taught 2nd grade at Maeser Elementary in Provo, the same elementary she attended as a child.
Silvia married Dennis A. Nuckles, of Lancaster, California on April 3, 1969 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of four children and 20 grandchildren; Dennis Jr. (Heather), American Fork, and their children, Cade, Mckell (Isaac), Luke and Brielle; Aaron (Janae), South Jordan, and children, Alyssa (Jackson), Whitney (Andrew), Kyler and Aubrey; Chad (Veronica), Mesa, Arizona, and children Bailee, Stella, Dakota, Bridger and Hunter; Ashley Nuckles Pead (Tim), American Fork, and children Mallory, Brady and Savanna; with 4 additional grandchildren Cooper, Garrett, Griffin and Quinn.
Silvia was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a number of capacities including: Primary and Relief Society teacher, Cub Scout leader, Primary Presidency and Stake Relief Society Presidency.
One of her great loves since early childhood was camping, fishing and boating. She also loved to travel. She and her family took many wonderful trips together. She was an incredible seamstress and an excellent cook. She also loved to bake and share her creations with family and friends.
Her greatest joy came from spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved playing games, attending sporting events, plays, dance recitals, school activities, taking the grandchildren to lunch for their birthday, hosting sleepovers, family gatherings, family reunions, and sharing their condo in St. George.
Silvia was an amazingly caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Despite numerous health challenges in her later years, Silvia never lost her passion for life or her tremendous sense of humor. She endured three open-heart surgeries in a 14-month period, the third surgery resulting in the implant of an artificial heart pump (LVAD) in December 2012. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Intermountain Heart Institute at the Intermountain Medical Center (IMC) in Murray, Utah. This program extended Silvia’s life many years, allowing her to spend more time with those she cherished most. We also wish to thank the providers from Bristol Hospice who provided her with such outstanding and loving care.
Silvia was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, their four children and 20 grandchildren and their spouses; four siblings and their spouses: Annette McAffee Hansen (Dean) Sandy, UT; Boyd H. McAffee Jr. (Marleen) Orem, UT; Evelyn McAffee Rushton (Ken) St. George, UT; Dawn McAffee Brown (Paul) San Antonio, TX. and numerous nieces and nephews.
