Sonia Dayle Harris Baczuk, 86, of Layton, Utah passed away on August 23, 2024, at her residence at Fairfield Village.
Born on March 13, 1938, in Ogden, Utah to Clarabelle and Everett Harris, she was the youngest of 10 children. Sonia (“Soni”) grew up in a loving home and was particularly close to her brother Boyce (Harris), her sister, Sharon (Best), and cousin Barbara Lutz. She enjoyed ballet, going on train rides with her family, and trips to Farr’s Ice Cream. Sonia learned how to cook and bake by watching her mother and became very skilled.
At Weber College, she met Alan Baczuk and they were married on Dec. 18, 1959. Sonia also attended BYU and enjoyed cheering for the Cougars throughout her life. She was also a loyal Seattle Mariners fan.
Living in various locations with her family in Idaho, Washington, Montana, and Utah- Sonia enjoyed many enriching friendships and associations and was active and faithful in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was known for her ability to reach out to others and for her Christ-like service. Sonia was particularly accomplished at sharing her love of baking and cooking with her neighbors. Her apple pie, cookies, and homemade bread and rolls were legendary. She also loved the color red and liked to sew, quilt, garden, crochet, and play games with family and friends.
Sonia and Alan had five children, 18 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Her faith and family meant everything to her and she relished opportunities to be together. She also enjoyed serving missions with her eternal companion, Alan, to Singapore and Oklahoma.
She is survived by her son, Eric Baczuk (Kathy Baczuk); her son, Kyle Baczuk (Cynthia Baczuk); her daughter, Stacy Ferguson (Ed Ferguson); her son, Aaron Baczuk (Mindi Baczuk); and her son, Gregg Baczuk (Karisa Baczuk).
