Sonya Neilson Wilson's Obituary
Sonya Neilson Wilson, 49, passed away February 9, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer, at her home in Roy, Utah with her husband Michael at her side. She was born April 28, 1967 in Burley, Idaho to Virgil and Lenore Neilson.
She was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Sonya was always concerned to do what was right, to treat people the way they should be treated and to love people. Her only desire in life was to raise a righteous family and to enjoy love and harmony within the walls of her home. Her children were her life. Her children especially have fond memories of their mother waking them up for school with church hymns and primary songs. There was a quiet power to her skill, very memorable.
Sonya was a happy child growing up. She loved to sing and dance around the house. Her voice was beautiful and she enjoyed singing in the choirs. Sonya was a very accomplished pianist and organist, serving many years as the ward organist. She contributed hours upon hours practicing to help accompany people and choirs who needed her help.
Sonya loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ more than anything. And, she just wanted to be “a good” person. She was quick to forgive and had such a wonderful ability to show love and acceptance to people around her. She was very slow to criticize or complain even when she felt she had been wronged. She possessed a beautiful inner peace.
You’ve heard the phrase that “when the going gets tough the tough get going.” It seemed the harder life got the stronger she became, yet she never lost that softness within her. Taking care of five children she dug in and got her CDL license, then later went on to become a registered phlebotomist, all while working full time to support her family. It seemed the stronger the wind blew the greater her ability was to bend and not brake.
Sonya leaves behind her husband Michael Wilson and her five children McKenna Johnson, Annie Johnson, Tiffany Johnson, Gracie Johnson and Collins Johnson. She was the youngest of eight children; Steve, Tad, Patsy, David, Mark, Julie and Jennifer. And many nieces and nephews who adored her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Albert Neilson, Ruby Lenore Mortensen Neilson and brother Steve Neilson.
