Stanley Elburn Sorensen's Obituary
Stanley E. Sorensen
1942 - 2023
Stanley Elburn Sorensen passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family at home. Stan was born on Oct 23, 1942 in Inglewood California. He loved sharing his childhood memories of he and his siblings on the farm in Cedar City, Utah. We all loved and laughed often, hearing him tell stories of his youth. He was a riveting storyteller.
He graduated from Valley High School in 1960. Years later he would start the Annual Basketball Turkey Tournament there at Valley High. There is no telling how much scholarship money has been raised, and still being raised for the student scholarship fund over all these years.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the northern states. There he formed lifelong friendships with the people he served and his companions.
He graduated from CSU in Cedar City, UT (now SUU) where he graduated with a political science degree and was student body president. It is also where he met his talented and beautiful wife, Nancy Rose Jackson who was the Homecoming queen. They married on Dec 18, 1965 in the St. George, Utah temple for time and all eternity. He then went on to study at BYU and received his masters degree in Marketing and economics.
He was a professor of economics at BYU and UVU. Stan was born with a gift and passion for reading and writing. As an avid reader, he read hundreds of books about all different religions, politics, economics and history. He was a wellspring of knowledge and his memory was distinct, keen and unmatched. He wrote several books on the history of his family and the world. He wrote about the economy in America and a historical novel titled “The Rose of Bombay” about the incredible Odyssey of William Tate and Elizabeth Xavier, who were his great, great, grandparents. He was the creator, editor and chief of the BYU sports magazine Cougar Blue. He was also the sports announcer for KBRE for high school sports and eventually the announcer for BYU baseball. He was known as “The sports voice of Southern Utah.”
We will long for his deep knowledge of the scriptures and his testimony of the Book of Mormon and his Savior Jesus Christ. We will yearn to hear his beautiful, deep voice in prayer expressing his love for his family and his Savior. We will carry on his patriotism and deep love for this country and pray for its future. We will truly miss his incredible sense of humor, laugh and candor. His one liners would throw us all into fits of laughter. Laughter is our family’s best medicine.
His wonderful greeting party across the veil included his parents, Elburn and Cleo Sorensen. His brothers, Kyran David and Douglas Kurt Sorensen. Be assured, the first sweet face he saw was his beautiful daughter he hasn’t seen in 34 years, Zigi Anne Sorensen. What a reunion!
And in honor of his humor …
Here are those of us …just holding on for dear life …in Biden’s America.
His wife of 57 years, Nancy Rose Jackson Sorensen. His sons, Todd (Michelle) T.J. (Kara) Jonathan, Jed and Brooks (Melanie) Sorensen. His daughter Tambi Rose Sorensen Matich (Dever) His sister Pam Sorensen Young (Spencer) His 26 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 that are getting to know him before they embark on their earthly journey.
We will miss you so deeply and love you forever.
P.S. Rest assured knowing that he is in session daily with Rush Limbaugh solving the ails of America.
