Stephen Gareth Homer's Obituary
Stephen Gareth Homer, of West Jordan, Utah passed away April 10, 2021 at the age of 73. Stephen was a loving husband, father, and grandpa. He was born to Gareth (Gary) Boyd Homer and Cleo Maureen Olsen on February 23, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is the eldest of six children.
Stephen’s fondest childhood memories were of summers at his grandparent’s cabin where he loved playing in the river and watching the stars at night. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints in the South German Mission where he shared his testimony of the church and gained a life-long love of the German language. Stephen continued to read the scriptures and other books in German throughout his life. Stephen also had a deep love for his country and served as a member of the Army JAG.
Stephen enjoyed learning all his life and attended Rick’s College, Brigham Young University and later the University of Utah to complete law school. Stephen practiced law for the rest of his life including a long tenure as attorney for the City of West Jordan. Later in his career, he enjoyed the freedom of a private practice which included countless hours providing pro bono services to those in need.
Stephen married the love of his life, Cynthia (Cyndee) Howard, on August 18, 1992 in the Jordan River temple. They were married for 29 years. Stephen and Cyndee created a blended family as they each were married two times previously, with seven children between them.
Stephen loved fixing cars, working with wood, and dreamed of building his own ultralight aircraft. He spent decades planning, buying supplies and prototyping the plane he would one day complete. Stephen loved to serve others including family, friends and neighbors- and to him, no one was a stranger. Stephen was a private, humble and spiritual man who would most like to be remembered as one who loved his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Cyndee, his children, Daniel Truscott (Reyna), Kirk Truscott, Melissa Clegg (Frank), his stepchildren, Jayson Uffens (Kristen), Jeremy Uffens (Polly), Jacob Uffens, Nathan McLaughlin (Christie), and siblings, Craig Homer, David Homer (Diane), Kevin Homer, Marc Homer (Kathleen), 20 grandchildren, and Sabrina (cat). He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Maureen Homer, and his sister and brother-in-law Wendy and Brad Jones.
