I met Steve in the 1980's while working for the Bureau of Land Management in the Salt Lake District. Steve was wonderful to work with, and in some ways a mentor in the many fire rehabilitation projects that I worked on or reviewed - and the common goals that we had in improving our success in that difficult field of work. I am sure his many papers published or presentations given over the years will continue to offer advice to the newer land managers and researchers of the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service. He will be be missed, and I offer my condolences to the family.

I became acquainted with Steve through the Utah Section of the Society of Range Mgt. We worked together often and he called me quite often when I was the SRM President. He always had the SRM best interests in his heart and mind. He will be missed by me and all.

Sister Monsen, Craig, Tod, and Stephanie,
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Brother Monsen. He was such an integral part of my teenage years in Meridian. As an adult leader for the older scouts, on high adventure activities, in classroom settings, and in personal interviews, he always taught Christ-like principles by word and example. He supported us in Church athletics and in our other endeavors. Brother Monson has been a great blessing to the Johnson family. Although many years have passed without much contact, his influence continues today. Kelly and I pray that you may have the peace promised by the Savior. We love you and we are thankful for you.

Both Linda and I have such fond memories Steve and Lois. We met as we served together in the ward. We remember Steve's teasing and loved it. We we welcomed as a long lost friend. His smile greeted us each and every time we met. He was a very good and valued friend.

I first met Steve and his family in their home when I was visiting Boise in the early 1970s and have enjoyed my association with them since that time. I was a new member of the Forest Service Research Organization. We both served in that organization for many years, most of the time together at the Forest Service's Shrub Sciences Laboratory on the BYU campus in Provo. Steve has a fine professional legacy in published works and land reclamation projects. His advice to land managers for reclamation projects was widely sought and applied. I worked with Steve in the laboratory and the field, and participated with him in many conferences and other venues. Steve's voice was an active one; he engaged with others effectively even those with different viewpoints and agendas. I am pleased to have been a friend and colleague. I was saddened to learn of his passing and offer my and Virginia's condolances to Lois and othe family members. May he rest in peace.

I worked with and shared ideas with Steve for many years at the Shrub Sciences Lab. It was always stimulating, even when we disagreed. Steve was passionate about anything he committed to do. He earned the respect of many in our profession. I will miss our discussions and his voice and his perspective on "hanging onto the important and valuable work of the past" will be missed. Unfortunately, I am out of state and will not be able to attend his funeral or otherwise express in person to Lois and family my appreciation for Steve. Best wishes and may God grant you his peace at this time. Remember, "God knows the details of the details of the details of our lives."

Lois and family:
I send my condolences on Steve's passing, I always considered him a good friend and looked forward to see and visit with both of you at the get together in Mt. Pleasant every year. I look back on our school years with fond memories, he was a good person and will be missed. I can not be there because of a cancer appointment but I will think of you.
