Steven Wayne Morgan's Obituary
After a 13-year battle with early onset dementia, Steven Wayne Morgan, 73, passed away on November 20, 2024. Steve was born May 1, 1951, in Salt Lake City to Wayne Rich Morgan and Cleona “Toni” Decker Morgan.
Steve was a cheerful and happy guy with a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh, who was always whistling and quick with a joke. He used to say, “I can hardly wait for tomorrow! I get better looking every day and I’m so good looking today, I can’t wait to see what I look like tomorrow.”
Steve moved to Farmington, New Mexico at a young age where he attended elementary school. His family then moved to Morgan, Utah when he was 13 years old. He graduated from Morgan High School in 1969 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Following high school, Steve attended Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) for a semester where he was the class treasurer. One highlight for Steve during that semester was meeting John Denver, who signed Steve’s draft card. He received a service deferment to serve a two-year LDS mission to Bolivia.
After his mission, Steve attended Utah State University earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at USU, he met Patti Slaugh from Bellevue, Washington, and they were married in the Logan Temple in 1975. After graduation, they moved to Virginia where Steve worked for Martin Marietta. While there, he got a Master’s Degree in Business at George Washington University. In 1978, the Morgans moved to Auburn, WA, where Steve worked for Boeing in Renton and Everett, WA. He was proud of his role in the stealth technology of the B2 bomber. His final project at Boeing was working on the launch of the 787 Dreamliner. In 2012, he was diagnosed with early-onset dementia and took an early retirement at age 61. Steve handled his cognitive decline with grace and was quick to laugh at himself when he would forget or couldn’t do something, which made this difficult time more comfortable for his loved ones.
Steve and Patti were parents of five children. He loved his family and delighted in their accomplishments. Steve enjoyed and was active in all sports, and shared this passion with his children. The Morgans enjoyed annual family ski trips to Utah. Steve was also an avid tennis player and taught all his children to play tennis. When each of Steve’s youngest two daughters turned 16, Steve took them skydiving. For many years, Steve was a Scoutmaster, which was his favorite calling. Steve and Patti divorced in 2004.
Steve and Jan Geschwind Mast were married in 2008, and they enjoyed travel, stage productions, and musical events. They also relished any chance they had to spend time with family. Jan tirelessly managed Steve’s care for more than 13 years.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jan; his five children, Travis Morgan (46), Heather Fisher (42), Daniel Morgan (40), Katrina Mills (35), and Tiffany Tippetts (33) and 13 grandchildren; his sisters Melodie Waldron, Cinda Morgan, and brother Nathan Morgan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Rich Morgan and Cleona “Toni” Decker Morgan.
