Steven Smith's Obituary
On August 27th at 3:00 am, Steven Smith was taken from us to join family and friends on the next part of his journey.
Steve was born in Ogden, Utah to Ariel and Emma Smith. He was the only son and middle child of three children. He grew up in Roy, Utah, attended Weber High and a year at Weber State College. When dad was in high school, he started with one parade drum and several albums of his favorite artists and copied their style. He performed with several different bands over the course of 30 years. When he was 19 years old, he went to Germany on his mission and continued to express his love for the German culture and people throughout his life.
When he returned from his mission, he married Kathie Bullard on March 5, 1965. He raised 6 children in West Valley City as a purchasing agent/buyer for several companies. He was able to use his German speaking skills on the phone early in the morning as part of his job. He was able to swim a mile during his lunch hour and was known to work out at Vasa 3 to 5 days a week.
He enjoyed traveling. His favorite thing to do was fly to Vegas, eat at the buffet and be home before bedtime.
He was always drawn to people and people were drawn to him. He loved to hear stories of people’s lives everywhere he went, including the Jordan River Temple.
The worst part of Steve’s dementia was when he could not visit with his friends and family even to call them by name.
Steve is survived by his wife Kathie M Smith. She stood by his side and took care of him throughout the difficult illness. His 6 children: Shelley (Brent) Paul, Stacey (Steve) Wolfe, Kim Smith, Chris (Marcela) Smith, Shaunna Harris, Stephanie (Danny) Haroldson, his sister Carol Broadbent and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We would also like to give a special thanks to the Hospice Team from Intermountain Homecare and Hospice.
There will be a viewing held at the LDS church building at 4251 S. 4800 W. in West Valley City on Friday, September 2nd from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, September 3rd at 11:00 am at Valley View Memorial Park.
