Sue Janice Barnum Ashby's Obituary
Sue Janice Barnum Ashby, age 86, of Sandy, Utah passed away of breast cancer on October 30, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband Kent Ashby, her sister Bettie and grandson Chance.
Survived by her children Laurie (Greg) Forbush, Lianne Ashby, Ron (Ruth) Ashby, Melanie (Wesley) Monroe, Susan Mitchell, Christine Thompson, Rob Ashby, Amie (Russ) Summers, Elissa (Danny) Long, Annette (Brian) Steadman.
Sue was adored not only as a mother, but as a grandma and great-grandma. Her many grandkids knew her as a mischievous, kind-hearted woman who was always there to support them (and sneak them chocolate, because “it cures everything”).
Saquarra, her loving grand-daughter, was her caregiver in the last years of her life. They shared a special bond and Sue was beyond grateful for her.
An independent woman who taught kindness and self-reliance, she was ahead of her time. The love that she gave was so strong and fierce that those who felt it will never forget it. She knew no prejudice and fostered acceptance in her many friends and family.
Sue’s cats Skippy, Stella, and Miss Kitty were her constant companions. Often they were found sleeping on top of her, stealing her food, and jumping on her keyboard. They never left her side.
She took immense pride in her home and happily spent the last years of her life there with her family, watching TV shows and eating ice cream.
Always proud to boast that she was the fastest runner in all of Swedetown, outshining even the “boys”, she was forever a west side girl. The stories she told of her childhood reflected how much she loved her dad. He always told her girls can do anything boys can.
Her independent spirit will be forever instilled in everyone that knew her.
She liked her Coke cold, her Pop-Tarts barely warm, and her In-N-Out animal style.
