Sue Eldredge Carlile's Obituary
Sue Eldredge Carlile, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, with her husband by her side. She was born on March 20, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Asahel and Catherine Eldredge.
Sue was raised on a small urban farm in Granger, Utah, where she was surrounded by extended family and a childhood full of simple joys. The heart of her early life was her five sisters—Kaye (Charles Graham), Jeanine (Ray Van Lueven), Linda (J. Dale Christensen), Sherla (Owen Michaelis), and Julie (Jim Phillips)—who were not only her siblings but her closest and dearest lifelong friends. Together, they filled their days with imagination and laughter—playing dolls, creating their own parades, riding the hay wagon, and building memories that would last a lifetime.
After graduating from Granger High School, she attended Brigham Young University, where she met the love of her life, Lonnie K. Carlile. They were married and sealed on August 26, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple, and together built a beautiful life grounded in love, family, and shared purpose in their family home in West Valley City. She spent time working at local companies, including J+T’s Frostop, Mad Man Magees, Discovery House, and Winder Dairy. She also loved her time and the women she served with in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Sue considered everyone a friend. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. She took a genuine interest in every person’s story and worked to include others, lift spirits, and create moments of joy. She loved to share stories and life experiences. She didn’t just collect precious moments—she created and shared them. Whether through a thoughtful call, a shared meal, or a small act of kindness, she made life brighter for those around her. Sue had a strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings in her ward, but she particularly loved working in Primary with the children, teaching and playing the piano.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. the following day, with the funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., all at the Peachwood Church House, 3963 S. Peachwood Dr., West Valley City, Utah. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Taylorsville City Cemetery.
Sue is survived by her husband, Lonnie K. Carlile; her children, Carie Landell (Chris), Kale Carlile, Ken Carlile (Kim), and Kristy Attridge (Troy); and 17 grandchildren, each of whom was a uniquely bright light in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Asahel and Catherine Eldredge; her sister, Jeanine; her brothers-in-law, Ray Van Lueven and Charles Graham; and her son-in-law, Nathan VonNiederhausern.
Mom (Old Girl), you will be missed at every party, at every gathering, for your phone calls of caring and concern, your “suppers” of fun and laughter, and in the quiet moments when we give thanks for those we love. Thank you for every precious moment—just not the dolls.
