Susan Ellen Wood Long's Obituary
Our angel wife and mother, Susan Ellen Wood Long, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Provo, Utah, on the morning of Saturday, March 3, 2018. She was 54 years old. No words can properly express the feelings of grief, peace, and deep gratitude we feel for our Savior's Atonement at this time.
Sue was born on April 9, 1963 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri and was raised there by her loving parents, Maebell Leanda Linville Wood and Mitchell Duncan Wood, Jr. She graduated from Hickman Mills High School in 1981.
Sue then studied at Brigham Young University, where she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1982. As a student of Film and Video Production, Sue met the love of her life, Sydney Alan Long, and they were married on February 8, 1986 for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.
Prior to her marriage to Syd, Sue served in the Arizona Holbrook Mission of the LDS church, serving among the Navajo people of the Four Corners area. Her profound love for those people and her influence among them continue to this day.
In recent years, Sue worked with special needs students in the Provo School District. Sue loved her job and her students. She had a special gift for recognizing each child’s needs and finding individualized ways to help them thrive.
Sue’s greatest influence was felt in her own home and community. She loved to spend time with her family and blessed their lives through her gifts of creativity and music. She taught her children to love others fearlessly by standing up for the wronged and by telling her children, “You are more precious than things.” Sue deeply loved all living creatures: people, animals, and nature.
Sue is survived by her beloved husband Syd and their four children: Kim Margaret (Michael) Fish, Anna Marie (Daniel) Scott, Eric William Long, and Rebecca Rose Long. She is also survived by her grandsons Alan Fish, Evan Scott, and Sean Scott, and her sister, Elizabeth Wood Kent. She is preceded in death by her parents and her uncle, Malcolm Linville.
Funeral services held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Parkway Stake Lakeview Building, 2876 West 1390 North, Provo, Utah. A visitation will be prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
