Susan Maxwell Skankey's Obituary
On April 26, 2026, Mom peacefully left us and passed through the veil.
She was born December 6, 1940, to wonderful parents! Clarence Homer Maxwell and Emma Ash Maxwell filled their home with fun, love, and gospel truths. After graduating from Granite High School in 1959, she received her teaching certificate from the University of Utah and taught elementary school. While at the University, she met Richard Lee Skankey. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 17, 1964, and were blessed with nine children who were taught the gospel. She encouraged them to keep things simple and fill their lives with joy. And what joy she had in her posterity! She found and spread joy wherever she went.
She enjoyed and faithfully served in many callings in the Church and had a firm testimony of our purpose here on earth. She and Rich served a full time mission in the Texas Houston Mission and then as service missionaries in the Inner City Mission in Salt Lake CIty.
A joyous reunion is now taking place with her husband, parents, and siblings Neal Maxwell and Lois Maxwell. Surviving her are much-loved children: Sally, Meg (Jim), Alan (Ricky), Katie, Andrew (Laura), Jane (John), Ned (Brooklyn), Eric (Sarah), and Sean (Mandi), along with 23 delightful grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters Ann Washburn (Larry), Carol Wright (Arthur), and Kathy Parker (Terry).
The family will greet friends from 1 pm to 3 pm on May 2, 2026, at the Foothill 7th Ward at 2215 East Roosevelt Avenue. A brief service to enjoy Sue’s favorite music will follow at 3 pm. Instead of flowers–much as she loved them–please contribute to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund.
She lived as a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and took great comfort in the directive to “Be still and know that I am God.”
