Tamara Hunter's Obituary
With great sadness our family announces the passing of Tamara Hunter, 86, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We miss her deeply.
Tamara NaDean Russell Hunter, of South Ogden, Utah, passed away on April 30th after battling a recent illness.
She was born on April 3, 1940 to Howard Merrill and Esther NaDean Russell at the family home in Kamas, Utah, one of 6 siblings. Her family moved many times and she grew up living in Utah, Idaho and Montana.
She studied education at Dixie College and BYU. She married Jerald (Jerry) J Hunter in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada Temple June 20, 1963; celebrating 56 years before dad's passing in 2019. She was a faithful lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many callings in the Relief Society, Young Womens, and Primary. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by her brother Michael (Vikie) Russell, children Garry (Tina) Hunter, daughter-in-law Jennifer Davis, Diane Hunter, Lisa (Chad) Walton, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Bill, Scott, Diane, Bob, husband Jerry, and son Steven.
Anyone who she came in contact with was instantly drawn to her quick wit, charming smile, and wonderful laugh. She had many lifelong friends. She loved to spend time with her children and especially visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were so dear to her. She was the best mom.
Before her children were born, she worked as a teacher, and at the old Saint Benedict's hospital. After everyone was in school she worked many years at IRS, and as a medical transcriptionist, retiring from the Hill AFB hospital.
Besides her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren, some of her favorite things were reading (especially about history), a cold Dr. Pepper with salted caramel, the beach, a good game of mahjong, exploring abandoned buildings on vacation, or visiting far-flung Walmarts. She was an accomplished crocheter, gifting many cherished blankets and outfits. Growing up as a horse woman she could tell you how many different horses were used as the main character in equestrian movies.
She was fortunate to visit many different places around the world with Jerry and her family. She looked forward to reunions at Snowbird, and taking cruises, or just scenic road trips. We know she is now celebrating with loved ones and friends who preceded her. We love and miss her, but look forward to a glorious reunion with her.
A viewing will be held on Thursday May 7, 2026 from 6-8 at Premier Funeral Services; 5335 1950 W St, Roy, UT 84067.
She will be interred in the West Weber Utah cemetery with Jerry and Steven.
