Teresa Richmond Riggs' Obituary
Teresa Richmond Riggs passed away unexpectedly at home on December 27, 2024 in Bountiful, Utah due to complications following a strenuous surgery and hospital stay.
Teresa was born on November 2, 1981 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Daniel Raymond Richmond and Laura Burnside Richmond. She was the second of five children, a joyful, curious, sweet-faced little girl with adorable curly hair. Blessed with a great enthusiasm for life, Teresa was a “no-fear” kid who rode her bike with no hands on the handlebars and wasn’t afraid to get dirty, but she also loved playing with Barbies and Cabbage Patch kids with her sister Dominique, playing with the family pets, and many friends.
At the age of 8, Teresa was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When asked as an older child, she said her favorite scripture was “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” from Matthew chapter 5. This scripture seemed to fit so well with Teresa because she was naturally empathetic and selfless, often putting other people’s needs before her own. Teresa was a loving caretaker to her younger siblings, Whitney, Jake, and Dylan, and truly enjoyed playing with them. This understanding of children, in particular, was a gift that Teresa continued to have her entire life, one that she shared with her nieces and nephews, and the children of her friends. She often planned ahead to have a little toy or treat for children she knew she would see, and showed a genuine interest in all kids, treating them as special and important.
Teresa graduated from Copper Hills High School in 2000, and worked for a few years at two different movie theatres. Teresa was passionate about her favorite movies, discussing them with a quick wit that was delivered so calmly that it often caught people off-guard and had them laughing hard. With her bold personality, she wasn’t afraid to stand up for her opinions. Many of the big group of friends Teresa made working at theatres became roommates of hers that she lived with for years. It was while working at Carmike Cinemas that Teresa first met a new coworker, Dustin Riggs, who would later become her husband. She and Dustin were best friends who later became a couple. They married August 24th, 2010, and were joined at the hip throughout their relationship.
Because Teresa was great with people, charming and funny, she was great at customer service, and excelled at her job as a manager at Macy’s department stores where she worked for many years.
Ever the caretaker of others, Teresa was a huge help to many family and friends with whatever they needed: cleaning, weeding, gardening, organizing, and physically assisting some friends and family that had health issues. Teresa was especially close to her Aunt Becky, whom she was a great help to, in the last couple of years. She was a protector of those she loved, and had a fondness for animals and her pets, such as her turtle, Ralphie, and her cats over the years, Princess, Blondie, and Buttons.
Teresa is survived by her husband, Dustin Davey Riggs, her mother Laura Richmond, her siblings, Dominique Watts (Brandon), Whitney Knight (Joseph), Jacob Richmond (Mikilah), and Dylan Richmond, and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Father, Daniel Richmond, her mother-in-law, Cindy Davey Riggs, her brother-in-law, Stephen Tyler Riggs, and her grandparents.
