Thayne Richard Winn's Obituary
Thayne Richard Winn – 10/06/1944 – 01/27/2024
Thayne was born on 10/06/1944 in Tremonton, Utah to James Donald Winn and Vera Thompson Winn.
Thayne passed away peacefully on 01/27/2024 @ 5:45 PM at Stonehenge in South Ogden.
At the time of his death Thayne was married to Patricia Cook Postel Winn. They were married on September 11, 1988. They spent the past 36 years residing in Uintah, Utah. They enjoyed traveling to Montana to Hebgen Lake where they would rent a cabin on the lake and Thayne could be found out fishing and enjoying the scenery that they loved. He also loved to go to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to see the Bar J Wranglers perform. He enjoyed going to Wendover to play the slot machines where he would have some great wins and also, some pretty good losses. He enjoyed driving up to Malad, ID to get lottery tickets. He spent many of his mornings out having coffee in the wee hours of the morning with his buddies. One of his many hobbies was playing the guitar with friends but mostly loved when both of his boys Brett and Jeff would come over and play guitars with him. He cherished those memories. In the past few years, he took up metal detecting and found a new hobby that he loved.
He grew up in Box Elder County, Utah, where he graduated from high school. After graduation he went on to be called to the US Army in 1964.
He was employed by several other employers’ before going to work for Staker & Parson for approximately the next 30 years as a ready-mix driver. After he retired, he decided he wanted to take a part-time job at the Adams Avenue Parkway toll road. He became well known by all that passed through the toll road. He always had jokes to tell and was known to have treats for some of the folks that would come through every day. He was also known to have dog treats for some of his favorite 4-legged passerby’s that were going through or were even walking the toll road with their owners. Everyone that he came in contact with became a friend and some became lifelong friends. He was known for his banter and jokes. He loved to tease his grandkids and great grandkids whether it was with a new Barbie for some of the boys, counting their ribs for quarters or always telling them to pull his finger.
He was known for his famous fudge and his bourbon balls that he would make over the holidays. Everyone looked forward to this time of the year as we were all waiting for these wonderful treats. He would spend days’ getting this made and was always excited to see the look on our faces and our reactions when he handed us a full plate of it. He always made sure that he made enough to take and hand out to his friends at the toll road.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Pat and his beloved cat Peanut; his children Brett (Beth) Winn, Jeffrey (Amber) Winn and Barbie (Roberto) Paredes and his bonus daughters which he treated as his own: Sherry (Shawnda) Postel, Stacy or as he called her Skinny (Justin) Bartholomew and Shelley (Randy) Goodell. He also survived by 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. He leaves behind his brother Ralph Winn and his sister Karen Boyle and a step-brother Bryce Sessions and several nieces and a nephew and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law and several of his beloved four-legged babies.
We would like to thank the many doctors and providers that provided excellent care to Thayne these last several months.
Per his wishes his body will be cremated and a private gathering for his family and close friends will be held on Friday afternoon in Uintah, Utah @ 1:00 pm.
