Thomas Leroy Backman's Obituary
On November 23, 2020, our dear father/brother/friend, Thomas Leroy Backman passed away at age 63. He was born June 20, 1957 in SLC, UT, to Doris and James Backman. Rode the train to school everyday from his back yard and graduated from West High in 1975. Married Patty Slaugh in 1980 and had four children, Brandie, Jontae, Krystal and Whitney. Later divorced but remained friends. Worked his way up from Meals on Wheels, to trucking, and then retired as a crane operator for Kennecott in 2016. Always looked forward to the week he went camping with the boys at Gooseberry Reservoir because he loved to fish. Loved his music collection from records to CD’s. His music ranged from Lionel Richie, Micheal Jackson, to Nelly and Tim McGraw. Had a blast entertaining company with his BBQ’s, beer, and his horrible karaoke. Loved his dogs, even the ones he didn't plan for. He was a charmer whistling away at the women on the T.V. and the nurses. Always bet on the Broncos, even on a bad season. He had a smart ass remark or joke for any situation that came about. Game shows! Oh the game shows! from Let's Make a Deal and The Price is Right to Ellen and Wheel of Fortune. His day was complete after Vanna. And don't you dare interrupt. All in all he was a great man that would lend a hand when he could. He will be missed by his daughters, sisters, Christine, Alene, and Kim, also brothers, Ron and Randy. By grandchildren Maeson, Tyler, Kamoryn, Rylee, Payton, Bailey, Ayden, and Hunter. And by best friends Dave Halladay, Bill Underwood , and Tony Stephenson. He is proceeded in death by James and Doris, Brother James, and Sister Lisa.
There will be no services at this time. But there will be a celebration of life at a later date, when Covid restrictions let us. Thank you everyone who has reached out to the family.
