Thomas Duane Bendall's Obituary
Thomas Duane Bendall, 84, reunited with his loved ones on the other side of the veil in the early morning of February 4, 2019.
Tom was born in Castle Gate, Utah on January 18, 1935 and was raised in that small coal mining community. He joined the United States Marine Corps in January 1952 and married Jenell Johnson on December 29, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tom is the patriarch of a family of seven children and enjoyed many camping trips, road trips, and other family outings with them. During his time in the military he served in both Korea and Vietnam; and retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in December 1979. Tom served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many capacities throughout his life, including missions for the church with his wife in Pensacola, Florida and Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. Tom is a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who is known for his need to serve others. You could not visit his home without being asked, “What can I get you to eat?” followed by a list of food available. He will be remembered fondly for this as well as his merciless teasing always accompanied by a wink, his love for his family, his patriotism, and his strong testimony of Jesus Christ.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Lydia Bendall, his siblings; Phil Bendall, LaRae Anderson, and Pat Bendall, and a great granddaughter. He leaves behind many loved ones including his wife; Jenell Bendall, his children; Jana (Ted) Petrossi, Kirk (Carolyn) Bendall, Larry (Lorie Madsen) Bendall, Tami (Mark) Tate, Cari (Brian) Larson, Todd (Kathy) Bendall, and Patrick (Kimberly) Bendall, his siblings; Fae Smith and Gayle Marrelli, his 29 grandchildren, and his 28 great grandchildren.
A viewing will take place on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 50 South 800 East, Orem, Utah from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. A graveside service for the family will be the following day at Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local VFW or at www.vfw.org/donate.
