Thomas Edward Meunier was born on December 28, 1937, the son of Harvey and Helen (Lang) Meunier. He grew up in Twin Falls (ID) and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1955. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1960 with a degree in Geological Engineering. On December 12, 1964, Tom was united in marriage to DeAnn Jacobs at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ogden. Tom was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as a civil engineer, and he and his family moved occasionally for his work. They lived in Ogden, Mountain View (WY), and Bismarck (ND) before moving to Springville in 1978 where they remained. Tom retired in 1992.
Tom was very active in the Catholic church where he served as a lector and distributed the eucharist at the local jail. He volunteered with his wife at the local library where they helped to repair damaged books. He also spent time reading books at the local elementary school and helping children learn to read.
Tom found great contentment in activities that allowed him to spend time with his family, including camping and Dutch oven cooking, family reunions around the country, and frequent visits to whatever ice cream shop was at hand. He enjoyed sharing traditions with his kids and grandkids, including setting up the annual Christmas village under the tree. His grandchildren knew him by many names, including Grandpa Bindi, Christmas Village Grandpa, Ice Cream Grandpa, and Mustache Grandpa. He loved his grandchildren and they loved him right back. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his handlebar mustache will be missed greatly.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, DeAnn, of Springville; six children, including Cindy (and Brian) Jackson of Kearns, Cheryl (and Tom) Barry of Sandy, Chris (and Eric) Chalmers of Rosemount (MN), Chad (and Pauline) Meunier of Winslow (AZ), Cerisa (and Kevin) Michaels of High Bridge (NJ), and Craig (and Kyle Higaki) Meunier of Forest Grove (OR); and 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Ann Arent of Tucson (AZ) and numerous other relatives and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Margaret and Becky), one brother (Robert), and a son (Clayton).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
