Tommy Joe Maggio's Obituary
Tommy Joe Maggio (Tom) passed away on September 22, 2023. This obituary is his dead giveaway, but not his dead end. To know him is to love him. We love him very much and he will be greatly missed. He will be mist more than the ocean breeze.
Tom was the loving husband of Sircy, and proud father of three: Michael, Philip, and Heather (David). And though he wasn't a perfect father, he was the best dad. His love for his children was evidenced through his frequent bragging and by the sparks in his eyes whenever he spoke of them.
Those sparks were also present whenever he looked at his wife of twenty years, Sircy. He was a wonderful husband and, like any good husband, knew how to elicit massive eye rolls from his wife---for Tom was always known for his killer puns that would soon have become the death of him.
The last few years of his life, Tom's work focused on making others' lives easier—a job that he loved and took very seriously. He regularly volunteered to complete the point-in-time count, which assesses the needs of the unhoused in order to connect them with available resources. Tom also walked in 5ks for various charities, as well as the pride parade.
Tom was loved by many and had numerous friends. He went out of his way daily to help people feel better. He always had a joke or pun prepared and never held back from sharing them.
The crematorium urned his business, but, at least now, he has the smoking body he always wanted. Though he had his own unique sense of humor, his family and friends find him dead serious now.
In his book, Reaper Man, Terry Pratchett said, "No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away....The span of someone's life is only the core of their actual existence."
The ripples Tom created in his life are giant waves that continue to swell. Whether it's a groan-of-a meme, memories of his theatrical performances, characters he created during game nights, his love of helping others, or his ability to just be present with those he loved, Tom leaves behind tsunamis that will be felt well beyond the span of his physical years.
Tom's funeral/memorial will be on January 13, 2024. Funeral/memorial at St. Mark's Cathedral (231 E 100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84111) at 2pm. Repast (reception) to be held afterward at Olympian restaurant (2181 S 700 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84106). Please RSVP to Sircy Rose at [email protected] by January 1, 2024 so we know how much food to have at the repast. " Thank you!
