Ulene Atkinson Pemberton's Obituary
Ulene Atkinson was the first-born of Mabel Allene Orton and George Holliday Atkinson in Ogden, Utah, August 23, 1936. After a number of moves to Montana and Washington State, she met George Stanley Pemberton in Yakima and was sealed, husband and wife, in the Logan LDS Temple June 9, 1958. They became the parents of: Richard George (Paula Johnson), Stephen Ja (Gwendolyn McIntosh), Annett (Stephen Smith), Deborah (Todd Ross), Gaylyn (Vern Graham), Sterling Stanley, Jared Jackson (Monika Stepan), Grant Orton (Toni Osborne), Randall Paul (Marilyn Black), Velene (Chris Burke), and Nathan John (Jennifer Steed - deceased & Kristy Sorensen Dean). Other family members: Denelle Robinson Deuel and Deborah Love Banks. Ten of Eleven children served, in their youth, full-time missions for the Lord, Jesus Christ and all are “enduring to the end” (Matt 24:13)
Ulene began her varied church services as a young girl in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints playing the piano for the Primary children. She has served as Ward Chorister, Music Director, Ward and Stake Primary Presidencies, Stake Young Women's President and Counselor, Ward Relief Society President and numerous other responsibilities. For her entire life she has had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ and His Restored Gospel. With George she served missions in Botswana (South Africa Johannesburg Mission), Samoa; to help prepare young men for mission service, and at the Riverton Utah Employment Resource Center. After graduating from Selah Washington High School – where she was honored as Girl of the Year – Ulene attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, then transferred to Utah State in Logan when Ricks became a two-year college. At Utah State she was honored as the Sweetheart of Delta Phi; the returned missionary social club. One of her college highlights was with the Ricks Madrigals Choir preforming for the General Authorities of the Church. She graduated in Elementary Education and Music and taught 2nd Grade in Toppenish, Washington until she began her family. After the family was raised, she loved being a Bluffdale (Utah) Elementary School aid. Evidence of her willingness to serve others was demonstrated by her hosting four college students from: Japan, the Country of Georgia, Washington State, and a high school “Indian Placement” student from New Mexico. Ulene is survived by her siblings: Keith (Kathy) of North Salt Lake, Utah, Dale of Yakima, Washington and sister Lynette Siler (Richard) of Farmington, Utah. Preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kaye Brady (Cliffton) and three grandsons. At the time of passing, Ulene has 54 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, and four more great-grandchildren expected soon. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022, in the Bluffdale Second Ward Chapel at 14400 South Redwood Road at 11:00 am, with a viewing at 9:30am. Interment will follow at the Bluffdale Cemetery, 14229 S. Redwood Road. In lieu of flowers, consider contributing to your local missionary fund.
