Vera Louise Kehl Berry's Obituary
Vera Louise Kehl Berry (96) passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, following a stroke. She was born in Cheraw, Colorado, on September 24, 1917, to Roy Leslie & Eda Nicklos Kehl. She grew up in Cheraw, Colorado, and after graduating from High School lived in LaJunta, Colorado. She went to Business School for a time in Denver, Colorado. On February 14, 1937, she married Frank Roger Berry. Frank’s job for the Union Pacific Railroad took them to live in Caliente, Nevada; Milford, Utah; Cedar City, Utah, and then back to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they lived for over 50 years. She was a member of the Methodist faith. Vera was a hard worker throughout her life. As a child she worked on the family farm alongside her siblings, beloved animals, and admired Aunts and Uncles. Later she worked to make ends meet during the Depression; she and Frank raised a family, and she continued to persevere after much heartbreak and loss. Vera loved growing things. She loved planting flowers and vegetables in her backyard. One of her favorite places to be was out on her patio, relaxing. Vera valued knowledge and learning. She would check out books from the library on any topic she wanted to learn more about. She had a trusty encyclopedia set that she referred to often to educate herself more. Crossword puzzles were also a favorite activity. She had a special crossword dictionary that she would refer to in the case of a tough puzzle. She enjoyed good music, plays and musicals, traveling, a challenging card game, a well-played sports game, and was a loyal Utah Jazz fan. Her stubbornness, determination, and independence made her a cherished and one of a kind person! She is survived by a sister-in-law (Pat Kehl), a daughter-in-law (Peggy Berry), grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy Shannon (“Sis”), her brother Leslie Kehl, her husband, their two sons Warren Keith and Douglas J. Berry, and an infant granddaughter. Special thanks to good friends and neighbors, the staff at Canyon Creek Assisted Living and A Step Forward Home Health for their support. Family services will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
