Vern was not only my step dad since I was about 14-15 years old, but he was a friend, a father figure, someone I could talk to, ask for help, and the one thing I’ll always remember about him is his love and kindness to all! I will miss him so much!
Vern was always kind to me. As soon as he and Donna were married, he became part of the neighborhood and Edgemont 8th ward, and it was as if he was always part of it.

Vern was a blessing to our family from day one. His genuine love for us individually and collectively is what will carry us on until we get to see his smiling face again.
Vern was a relentless warrior in the gospel. I loved serving with him in our stake and with the YSAs. One Sunday, a young man was receiving the Melchizedek Priesthood. In his responsibility on the High Council, Vern had oversight for this. But because he was Vern, he made sure to show up at the home and make sure it was performed and performed correctly. I thought "Surely Vern has been on both sides of this process for many years, and could have passed it off to someone else or just assume that it would be done." But that wasn't Vern.
