Vernon Lee Fehlberg's Obituary
Our much loved - husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend died at home on November 5. He was born to Beulah Keatley and Victor Burr, in Newton, Kansas, October 18, 1932. Later adopted by Reinold Fehlberg , he grew up with three wonderful sisters and a beloved grandmother. After graduating from American Fork High School, he served for four years in the U.S. Navy. He later graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in sociology. He then worked for the Juvenile Court as a probation officer and supervisor. A passionate and skilled hunter and fisherman, he found joy and excitement in the outdoors. He married Joan Sabin in 1958, and was the father of five beautiful and gifted daughters, who loved to go camping and boating with him. One of his greatest gifts to our family was an appreciation of the beauty found in our mountains, lakes, and deserts. We also delighted in his fantastic tenor voice, and his singing around the house. He loved the Gospel, with the exception of long meetings. His favorite calling was Gospel Doctrine teacher, followed by his love of temple work. Later in life he and Joan served an LDS temple mission in Chicago.
Vern is survived by his wife of 55 years, five daughters Rosana (Dave) Whetten, Cory, Julie (Matt) Collings, Katherine (John) Van Cott, Kristin Fehlberg (Chris Oliver), 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Sisters Judy Larson and Dixie Nelson. Preceded in death by parents, and a sister Dolores Jean McCall. We will miss him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the LDS chapel 90 North 600 West in Orem, UT, at 11:00 a.m. Viewings at the church on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30. Interment in the Salem City Cemetery.
Our thanks to First Choice Home Health and Hospice for their caring support. Flowers are appreciated, of course, but, if you wish, a contribution to the LDS Missionary Fund would be nice instead.
