Vernon Eugene Hoekstra, 79
Born in Sheldon Iowa to Louis and Alberdina Hoekstra on December 5, 1932 and passed away at his home in West Valley Utah February 25, 2012. At his request no service will be held and ashes will be spread in the spring in the Utah Mountains.
He had six siblings Harold, Donna, Gary, Audrey, Lorin and Glenna Rae. “Vern”, as everyone called him, learned Brick Masonry at the age of 8yrs old from his father by helping and learning the trade. Eventually he started his own company, Dutchman Masonry, in 1991. Vern worked side by side with his best friend Von until he retired in 1997. Vern married Bonnie Osmonson, in 1950. They had nine children, Penny, Julie, April, Scott, Sandy, Kelli Jo, Jamie, Robby and Joey. They later divorced in 1970. He then moved to Utah in 1985, where he then met Shirlee Beers in 1986. The two were married in 1993, where he became a step father to five children, Debbie, Sheri, Laurie, Jim and Bobbie. Vern has 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Harold and two children Penny and Kelli Jo. Vern was very active in AA, he loved going to Fellowship Hall and playing cards with his many friends there until he could no longer drive. He loved pinochle, solitaire, cribbage and playing video poker. He never missed a Utah Jazz game on T.V. Vern also spent many hours on puzzles. He loved working on puzzles, especially with his great grandson Weston.
He loved being outside doing yard work, and was a very hard worker who loved his wife, kids, family and life.
Vernon Eugene Hoekstra, was a great man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be truly missed, but never forgotten.
