Vernon Mark Olson's Obituary
Vernon Mark Olson, 94, of Kaysville, Utah, passed away on June 4, 2014, at the George Wahlen Veteran’s Home in Ogden, Utah. Vern was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 20, 1919 to Oscar Mark and Grace Woolley Olson. Vern was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission to the Eastern States Mission. Vern married Mildred Bailey in 1942 (later divorced). He was a pilot in the Air Force during World War II. After the war, he graduated from the University of California Berkeley, and became an accountant. He married his sweetheart, Rhean Griffin in 1984. In retirement, they served a mission to the Atlanta Georgia Temple and Johannesburg South Africa Temple. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, baby daughter Kathie, a brother Reed, sisters Alice Walsh and Lois Larson, and his son, Mark James Olson. He is survived by his sweet wife, Rhean Harker Griffin Olson; his daughters Cherie (Dale) Portie of Vidor, Texas; Jeannine (Mark’s wife) Olson of Magna, Utah; Kristie (Terry) Webb of Orem, Utah; Wendie (Doug) Day of El Dorado Hills, California; and brother Lowell Olson of Atlanta, Georgia. Vern is also survived by Rhean’s children, Greg (Susan) Griffin of Walnut Creek, California; Mark (Stephanie) Griffin of Salt Lake City, Utah; Kati Griffin and Jenny (Marlon) Borup of Kaysville, Utah; 27 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A very special thank-you from family and friends to Bristol Hospice, and the gentle, kind and compassionate nurses, CNA’s and resident friends at the Wahlen Veteran’s Home, for their loving care provided throughout his stay and final days here on earth. We mourn our loss, but celebrate Vern’s life, knowing indeed that “Families can be together forever, through Heavenly Father’s plan.” Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 615 North Flint Street, the Havenwood Ward Chapel, in Kaysville, Utah at 11:00 A.M. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9 – 10:30 A.M. Interment, at the Salt Lake Cemetery, will be at 3:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, do something good in the world today
