Veronica Mary Rose Cowart's Obituary
Veronica Mary Rose went home to be with her Mother and Father and two siblings, Howard and Mary on August 12, 2020. Veronica was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on October 19, 1942, to William Allan Elder Rose and Mary Rollo Robertson. She graduated from Portobello Senior Secondary School in Edinburgh. When out of school, she spent her time with her best girlfriends, Marjorie, Jeanette, and Shirley biking to the beach, visiting her Grandpa’s grocery, the neighborhood sweet shop, and dumping chicken noodle soup (it looked the most like vomit) from the balcony of the local theatre. Veronica attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints starting at the age of 12 years with her sweet friend, Shirley Gregson. At the age of 18, she was baptized and then served a mission in the North British and the Scottish/Irish mission. She was greatly influenced by Brother and Sister Bearnson who later sponsored her when she immigrated to the United States in 1962. Those who knew her would all agree that Veronica was very gifted intellectually, and her wit could rarely be matched. In fact, when someone would ask her for a light, she would always say “I haven’t had a match since Superman.” Veronica attended Brigham Young University for five years where she studied British Literature with a double minor in French and German, though her best subject was sarcasm. Following graduation, she met Robert Welton Cowart, and they were married on September 21, 1967. Together they lived in Springville, Utah while Bob finished his education at Utah Technical College and Veronica worked at BYU Press. With two young children, they moved across the country to Savannah, Georgia to return to Bob’s hometown and be a strength to the Church there. They raised their nine children mostly in the Garrard Avenue home where together they experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly. Veronica was known for her selfless
personality especially in the way she served in The Church as the Director of the Geneology
Library for 20 years where she submitted more than 30,000 names for temple work. She also sang in the church choir, two temple choirs, served in various leadership roles and was always there for friends when they needed her. Veronica is remembered by her children as being smarter than anyone on the planet, completely sacrificing her talents and time for their well being, and making them laugh with her no-nonsense sarcasm. As a Grandma of 29 grandchildren, she never missed a single birthday card and always made each of them feel they were special and loved. Veronica is survived by her spouse, Robert “Bob” Cowart; her children: Steven (Amy) Cowart, Jennifer Cowart, Michael (Lisa) Cowart, David (Joy) Cowart, Philip (Veronica Chavez) Cowart, Alison (Gunnar) Schmid, Matthew Cowart, Benjamin (Posey) Cowart, and Heather (Benjamin) Tuinei; her grandchildren, Bradley, Sarah, Brianna, Kaylee, Isabella, Ronin, Alexis, Jillian, Emma, Collin, Porter, Hayden, Cassidy, Holland, Casjen, Pyper, Lleyton, Veronica, Gabriel, Gavin, Mariah, Vance, Brogan, Grey, James, Mary, Rose, and Welton. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Mary and Donald Howard, and her grandchild, Jeremy Alan Cowart. Graveside Funeral Services will be Monday, August 17, 11 a.m. at Springville City Cemetary, 460 South 200 West, Springville, Utah where she will be laid to rest.
