We have such fond memories of Phil. Coming to visit Utah was always fun. I remember when we stayed at our aunt and uncles farm house in winter. Our then 4 year old blew out the pilot light. He helped start up the furnace keeping us warm. He also taught the boys how to clean fish when they went fishing. He will be greatly missed. RIP Phil.
Phil was a great influence in my life. Growing up, I admired him as much as I did my own father. He bought me my first train set when I was 5, put it together and drove from Huntsville to Roosevelt, UT to give it to me. When I was 8, he bought me my first hunting Buck knife. When I was 12, he bought me a Browning .22 lever action rifle. I still have the knife and rifle to this day. Both are precious reminders of an Uncle I love dearly. I know he was welcomed into Heaven with the open arms of his parents and two brothers. I love you Uncle Phil. Christian.
I remember going camping with Phil and his family. My dad (David East) and myself and mom would go camping and have bbqs with Phil and family and Wayne’s family: I remember the fun nights in Huntsville. You’ll forever be missed.
I remember when I was young Phil and Patty lived kitty-corner to us. I used to take care of the dog, Cobuk, and the goat, Ruth for them. Phil and Patty were always very kind, fun and accepting of everyone. They made me feel special by entrusting me to care for their pets.
Phil was my next door neighbor all growing up. He called me Charlie and made me feel so very special. My sisters and Emily once made me a birthday cake with my name and he took small pieces of paper to change it from Carly to Charlie. Very lucky to know this man!
First met this great man when I was 7 he was very tall and intimidating but as soon as he knelt down and spoke I knew he was a big teddy bear. I have so many memories of Phil, Patti and my folks, and Tom and Veda Nass. Emily was my flower girl at my wedding! I am forever greatful for the Danks and sending Patti, and Emily our deepest condolences for the loss of this giant of a man. May the Lord wrap his loving arms around you both and lighten the loss and may you know you both are in our prayers and hearts. Love Shellie ( Sansone)
We spent a few years as neighbors of Phil and Patty and Huntsville and spent a few occasions golf golfing with Phil and my father. I was only about 12 and I would caddy for my father. I was very intimidated and amused by Phil because he was very colorful to say the very least when he hit a good shot and more when he did not. I do know that he loved golfing with my father and I enjoyed spending time with the two of them on the course. He was a very intimidating man, but he always treated me and my family very well and deep inside. He was just a big teddy bear. He wasn’t afraid to let me know when I did something wrong, but he wasn’t afraid to be there for me if I needed to be picked up . I know my father will miss him dearly as well my mother and my siblings. My wife and I are sending our prayers to Patty and Emily and the rest of Phil‘s family during this time. May they find peace and comfort, knowing that Phil is comfortable and smiling and more than likely swinging a three iron.
