Virignia Lee Cook's Obituary
Virginia Lee Cook, 92, of Riverton, UT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 25, 2023 after a long and successful life. Virginia was born on May 9, 1930 to Roy and Vera Eubanks in Orange, California. She had one older brother, Leroy Eubanks.
After graduating from Brea Olinda High School in 1948, she married her high school sweetheart Howard Bassett. In 1956 Virginia and Howard, adopted their late son Christopher Bassett after trying for children for years. A year later they were blessed with their son Martin Bassett in November 1957. Howard and Virginia divorced in June of 1959.
Virginia remarried Vernon Dossey in Fullerton, California in 1960 where Christopher and Martin were raised. They moved to Arroyo Grande in 1973. And later retired in Nucla, Colorado in 1977 where they lived and worked on a 158-acre cattle ranch. Ten years later they moved to Lebam, Washington where Virginia spent the next 30 years in her remodeled family home. Vernon passed after a long battle with Alzheimer’s in 2001.
Virginia remarried William Cook (Bill) in 2008 and moved to Raymond, WA. They enjoyed traveling to Mexico and sun bathing, fishing the Willapa River, and overlooking the Willapa Bay from their beautiful home.
Virginia loved to travel and see the world. She had a voice of an angel and enjoyed singing in her traveling choir, Sweet Adeline’s. She was a passionate seamstress and talented quilter. Virginia was a vintner who made her own wine with help from her dear friend Larry Hudziak. When she wasn’t filling the world with a smile, laughter, warmth, and kindness, Virginia could be found in the kitchen baking delicious pies, outside gardening, or singing songs with her player piano.
Virginia was predeceased by her three husbands: Howard Bassett, Vernon Dossey, and William Cook; her son, Christopher Bassett; and her great-grandson Alejandro Valencia.
Virginia is survived by her son, Martin Bassett; daughter in law, Nancy Bassett; grandchildren, Candy (Walter) Bassett/Harrison and Misty (Luis) Valencia; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Genesis, Aaliyah, Alexandria, Tacoma, and Siera.
