Wendel Hardy's Obituary
Wendel Hardy passed away peacefully in his home August 2, 2025, and was greeted by his wife and son who had longed for his arrival.
Wendel was born April 5, 1937, in LaVerkin, Utah, also known as Beautiful Valley because of its rich farm lands. He was the fifth of eight children born to George Franklin and Vilate Young Hardy.
Wendel's childhood was idyllic and full of hard work. There were cows to feed and milk, alfalfa to cut and bale, and fruit trees to tend and harvest. Wendel and his friends enjoyed swimming in the local swimming hole and catching fish with their bare hands. His love for animals began in his youth and continued throughout his life.
Wendel graduated from Hurricane High School in 1956. Following graduation he was called to and served in the North Central States LDS Mission and had many faith-building experiences that he shared often.
Wendel met Ingrid Sasse, a beautiful German immigrant at a church dance. They were married July 2, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after, the two attended cosmetology school and opened a salon in their home. In 1972 Wendel received the Hairdresser of the Year award.
Other career opportunities came at Wharton Flooring where he worked for twenty-five years. Later, he and his sons opened their own flooring business, Hardy's Hardwoods.
Wendel was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was proud of his pioneer heritage and enjoyed sharing his family history with others.
He is survived by his sons, Kurstin and Nathan Hardy and sister, Rosetta Hardy Gurule. Preceded in death by his wife, Ingrid, son Collin, parents and siblings.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:30 am at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, MIllcreek.
