Willard Duane Haugen's Obituary
Willard Duane Haugen passed away on August 9, 2020 at the George Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home of stage four cancer.
He was born March 20, 1931 in the family home in Devils Lake, North Dakota, the son of Stella Mae Leader Haugen and Ole J. Haugen.
He was reared and educated in Devils Lake and Rolla, North Dakota Schools. After graduating from Devils Lake Central High school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served four years. He served with the U.S. Occupation Forces in Japan and in a recovery squadron of the U.S. Air Force in Korea during the Korean War.
He married Patsy Ruth Christensen on January 20, 1951 in Ogden, UT. She passed away November 11, 2007. They were married almost 57 years at the time of her death.
He was employed the Federal Government for 38 years, retiring in March 1986 as a Supervisory Logistics Officer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with his children and most of all being a family man to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also an avid genealogist reaping great personal satisfaction from researching the Haugen and Christensen family histories through Canada, England, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway as far back as the early 1100’s in England and to the late 1400’s in Norway. He also researched other family members/descendants in France, Germany, Russia, Mexico and Italy.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, his father Ole J. Haugen, Devils Lake ND, and his mother Stella Mae Leader Haugen Sletten, Thief River Falls MN, and younger brother, Leo Dennis (Ethel) Haugen, and older brother Julius William (Deloise) Haugen, both of Devils Lake ND, and two older sisters Ethel Haugen Sauro, Tacoma, WA, and Vivian Haugen Smutz, Mesa, AZ.
He is survived by two sons, Randy Lee (Valorie) Haugen and Tim Dean (Gena) Haugen, and loving grandchildren, Brandi Kay (Dino) Hansen, Jessica (Andrew) Baker, Jake Haugen, Jason Haugen, Joseph (Rylee) Haugen; and Camille Jordan Sorensen, Cass Jordan. Great-grandchildren Averie Mae Hansen, Tayte Billy Hansen, Elliett Haugen, Remi Haugen, Legend Haugen and Dakota Sorensen.
Willard had chosen to be cremated and returned to his family.
