William Arnold Barnhart's Obituary
William Arnold Barnhart, age 71, passed from this world on January 9th, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Los Angeles, CA to George Allen Barnhart and Irene Alberta Bittner on May 14 1948. Bill served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Atlantic States Mission from 1967 to 1969. He returned from his mission to Downey California where he met Kathleen Price. After their first date in Disneyland, Bill and Kathy were together constantly. They were engaged a week later. They married 4 months later on October 22, 1970. One month later, Bill was deployed by the air force to Okinawa, Japan. During his military career, Bill served in Okinawa, Missouri, Germany, South Dakota, and finally Utah, where he settled after completing his full-time service in 1981. He continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve for 17 years until 1998. Bill was always very proud of his service to his country. Bill has had many jobs including working in a foundry, “Tupperware lady,” and Running printing presses. Bill loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Bill was always on the lookout for adventure. He loved exploring the world with Kathy and a herd of Dachshunds in their trailer. In his free time, Bill loved working on his model train layout and participated in many of the local and national train clubs. Above all, Bill loved people. He would put anything aside (no matter how important) to serve people in need. Bill owned every type of tool and would loan out anything that was needed by people in the neighborhood. Bill affected everyone he came in contact with. Bill is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has held many callings. His favorite calling was ordinance working in the Jordan River Temple. Bill and Kathy served as service missionaries in Salt Lake Inner City mission from 2014 to 2016. He was proceeded in death by his parents, George and Irene Barnhart, and his brother Clyde Barnhart. Bill is survived by his wife Kathleen, Sister Bonnie (Bill) Vassar, Children: Vennessa (Jeff) Cunningham, Sarah (Shane) Moss, Aaron Barnhart, and Laura (Anthony) Sudweeks, Grandchildren: Zachary Cunningham, Ethan Cunningham, Isaac Cunningham, Chloe Moss, Emily (Emma) Moss, Megan Cunningham, Paige Cunningham, and Adelaide Sudweeks, and a thousand Dachshunds. Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation with the family will be held at the LDS Prairie View Chapel at 6030 S. Prairie View Drive in Taylorsville on Sunday Jan 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Friends and Family can also visit on Monday January 13th from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. A funeral service will be held at the LDS Prairie View Chapel at noon on January 13th.
