William “Bill” Paul Vorkink
1943 – 2016
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Bill Vorkink, passed away October 11, 2016, after an extended illness. Bill was born August 8, 1943 in Santa Monica, California to Joseph Paul and Beryl Stewart Vorkink. He married Gloria Ann Mortensen, March 31, 1964 in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. Together they raised 6 children.
Bill attended Southern Utah University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He went on to the University of Arizona where he received his PhD with honors in Bio-Chemistry. He completed his post-doctorate work at Michael-Reese Medical Center in Chicago. Bill applied his knowledge as a Clinical Pathologist and Professor.
Bill was an accomplished and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy was found in enjoying the outdoors with his family. He also enjoyed playing and participating in sports and serving in various capacities in the LDS Church.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; children, Yvette (Tyler) Birkholz, Keith (Marcie) Vorkink, Lorrie Vorkink, Jason Vorkink, Michael (Erin) Vorkink, Christina (Jaron) Coombs; 25 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15th, 11:00 am at the Cobblecreek Ward, 950 So. 1700 E. Springville, Utah. A gathering for family and friends will be held prior to services from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the church. Interment, Ephraim City Cemetery. On-line condolences may be left at www.premierfuneral.com.
