William "Kregg" Walbom's Obituary
William "Kregg" Walbom, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, died on March 26, 2025, at the age of 76 after a brave battle with cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and integrity.
A proud veteran, Kregg honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Kathryn M. Hemingway, on July 4, 1971. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their two children, Mary Shalome Orton and Christian Shawn Walbom, in Salt Lake City and West Valley City, Utah.
Kregg was a master carpenter for over 40 years, an artist with wood, and a man who found joy in working with his hands. He had a love for gardening, growing an abundance of vegetables, and often winning awards alongside Kathy for their breathtaking landscapes. His passions extended to music from the '60s and '70s, Star Trek, the Green Bay Packers, and, most of all, his family.
After decades in Utah, Kregg and Kathy moved to Florence, Oregon, where they enjoyed two peaceful years together on the coast before Kathy’s passing in 2017. Though he missed her deeply, Kregg continued to embrace life with his signature free spirit, fierce protectiveness, and unwavering kindness.
He is survived by his children, Mary Shalome Orton (Troy Orton) and Christian Shawn Walbom, and his five cherished grandchildren: Aspen, Megan, and Bryton Orton and Tallyn and Deryck Walbom.
Kregg was a man who accepted everyone for who they were. He led by example—through hard work, sacrifice, and acts of service. He was a Superman to many, always ready with a quick-witted remark, a silly tongue twister, or a warm, infectious laugh that made you feel like the funniest and most wonderful person in the world.
His bright blue eyes, his humor, and his boundless love will be deeply missed. As we say goodbye, remember his way of telling you that you were loved and cared for… Peace Baby!
We would like to thank the nurses and CNAs at Draper Rehabilitation and Care Center for their dedicated care and his sister Kathy Williams for the many hours she sat by his side and cared for him during his most difficult times.
A Celebration of Life for Kregg will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 12:00 PM at The Sandy Club, 450 E 8680 S, Sandy, Utah.
