Winfield Scott Cacheleur Jr's Obituary
Winfield Scott Cacheleur Jr. passed away in his sleep on November 19, 2024, just four days after celebrating his 42nd birthday. Winfield was born on November 15, 1982, in Santa Maria, CA, to Winfield Scott Cacheleur Sr. and Rebecca Ann Williams. As a child, he was affectionately called “Scott” or “Scotty.” He shared a deep bond with his father and sister, and together they called themselves the “Three Musketeers”—a motto he carried throughout his life. Some of his fondest memories were of trips in their dad’s old VW bus, heading to the beach for bonfires.
In elementary school, Winfield became an avid stamp collector. With his father’s guidance, he created an exhibition that was featured at numerous stamp shows, earning top awards. His childhood included frequent moves between Idaho and California, shaping his adaptability and love for adventure. During his junior high years, Winfield, his sister, and their father immersed themselves in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and the Idaho Falls Opera Theater. A natural performer, Winfield enjoyed juggling and had a strong singing voice.
At age 13, tragedy struck when his father died in a car accident, leaving Winfield and his sister as wards of the State of Idaho. Eventually, he moved in with his grandparents in Santa Maria, CA, where he graduated from Delta High School in 2001.
It was around this time that Winfield reconnected with his mother, and they built a close relationship that lasted for years. Family was always at the center of his life, and he and his sister remained each other’s biggest supporters. In 2016, he embraced a fresh start by moving to Utah, eager to be closer to family—especially his sister and his two beloved nieces. He took great pride in being their “fun uncle,” sharing special moments at Lagoon, Cornbelly’s, and home.
Winfield loved Utah’s outdoors, often fishing with his mother whenever they had the chance. They also bonded over axe throwing, a hobby he quickly mastered. It soon became a passion, leading him to join a weekly axe-throwing league alongside his mother, brother in-law, and oldest niece. His friendly nature and warm smile made him a beloved fixture in the league.
His unwavering support for his sister’s growing business was a testament to his loyalty and love. From its humble beginnings at home to a thriving warehouse location, he was always there to lend a hand. Winfield thrived on connection, chatting with customers and encouraging them to return—his social nature and infectious energy making an unforgettable impression. Winfield had a rare gift for making any room come alive. His jokes, laughter, and lighthearted spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandfather, and grandmother. He is survived by his mother, Rebecca Williams; half-brother, Jesse James; sister, Charlotte Brown; nieces, Alaya and Rosalyn; and his son, Winfield Scott Cacheleur III.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday February 23, 2025, at Social Axe Throwing in Salt Lake City (1154 S 300 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84101) from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
