Yona Moore's Obituary
Yona Moore passed away quietly of natural causes on Monday, October 9, 2023, in her bed at Apple Village Assisted Living. Born in Colorado, Yona was 68 years old when her long strange trip came to an end. She is survived by her brothers Richard Toothman, John (Peggy) Lewis, and Paul (Ulie) Roberts. Also survived by her children Linda (John) McAllister, Patricia (Matthew) Karlson, Jakob Brown, Gynna Binkley, and Frank Holmes; grandchildren Josiah, Gracie, Cecilia, Carson, Madeline, Joseph, Wesley, Shayne, and Alanna; and great-grandchildren Axel, Paisley, and Freya.
Yona was a free spirited, feisty, sometimes chaotic woman who lived her life the way she wanted and never looked back. A proud member of the Freight Train Riders of America (FTRA), she traveled the country with the hobo community that she loved. A fast-loving woman she was married 8 times (that I know of) although the number of divorces is up for debate. Never a conventionally successful person she had little but would not hesitate to give someone literally anything she did have. She loved drinking beer and listening to rock music in her younger days and remained unchanged by circumstance.
Later in life she would lock her beer in her refrigerator for safe keeping then wheel her way to the bingo games she never missed. She collected jewelry and dream catchers, had 4 copies of the movie Titanic on double VHS, and hung pictures of the cast of Supernatural alongside pictures of her children. She was a complex person who could be described as both generous or selfish, compassionate or callous, and loyal or treacherous depending on the person you asked. She loved hard and fought harder. If you knew her you probably have a funny, maybe fantastic sounding story about your times together. One thing everyone can agree on is she left a lasting impression. I like to think that she is kickin’ back, drinking a cold Milwaukee’s Best with Silver Fox, Easy, and Kickstand in that golden boxcar in the sky.
She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. We encourage you to share any memories you have here.
