I first me Allan at a cochlear meeting when I sat next to him. What followed was a wonderful friendship that lasted 10 years. Having cochlear implants, we identified with the complexities and hardships involved with cochlear implants. When I picture Allan in my memories, I see a man always smiling, always offering encouragement and help to everyone. Next to my father, I consider Allan one of the nicest men I had the honor of knowing. He was a volunteer for Cochlear and invited me to join him at meetings with fellow implantees or those considering one. During the meetings he always asked the attendee what we could do to make life better for them. And he left me every time with the same question. Allan truly exemplified the true Christian way of life, one we would all do well to emulate. I feel certain when Christ was there to meet him, he welcomed Allan and said, “well done, my good and faithful servant.” Earth has lost a star, heaven gained a gem! My sincere condolences to Kara and all his family…Karen McAvoy
