Ann Louise Wassermann's Obituary
Ann Louise Wassermann
1953-2022
Ann Louise Wassermann passed away on August 14, 2022. She was born on January 10, 1953 to Irving and Mary Wassermann in Logan, Utah, the youngest of three children. Being the daughter of a music professor, she was educated in classical music at a young age, developing her significant talent on the piano and eventually teaching piano students as a teenager.
Ann attended Utah State University graduating with a bachelor and master’s degree in political science. She was a brilliant student and received a full scholarship to attend law school at New York University, graduating in 1977. Returning to Salt Lake City, she was recruited by Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy, at that time the largest firm in the state. Later she joined the firm of Littlefield & Peterson where she practiced family law for many years. She was a skilled litigator and a wise advisor to her many clients. Ann and David Littlefield were instrumental in creating and developing the guardian ad litem program which was adopted by the State of Utah as an integral part of the juvenile justice system. This program assigns an attorney to each child who becomes enmeshed in the legal system in cases of neglect, abuse or as dependents in contested divorce and custody cases. These attorneys assure that the child’s rights are protected and advocate for a result that is in the best interests of the child. Ann was a fabulous cook and a gatherer of people, often organizing parties on the spur of the moment. She developed and maintained many deep friendships over the years. She could bring together her friends from all the different places in her life and create an eclectic group that always generated new connections and friendships.
She was an accomplished athlete, having been state ranked in tennis. She loved skiing, golf and river running. She had a wicked sense of humor which she could wield with precision and she was a serious, lifelong Aggie fan. Whether you knew her as Ann, Rooney, or Wass, if you were in her circle, you knew you were part of something special.
Ann is survived by her partner of 32 years, Diane Redden; a brother Paul Wassermann and a sister, Ellen Wassermann Wohlmacher. Too numerous to mention are her many friends who will miss her style, her verve and her amazing food.
