Barbara Kathleen Shurtleff's Obituary
Barbara Kathleen Green Shurtleff passed peacefully from this life on January 4, 2013 in her home after a long battle with a brain tumor. She was 49 years old. She was first diagnosed 16 years ago, but through her faith and the faith of others, she was able to raise her children and bless many people, despite her illness.
Barbara was born in Mesa, Arizona on November 17th, 1963 to Johnny and Lillian Green. She grew up in Joplin, Missouri where she excelled in everything she did.
She married Kevin Shurtleff on June 8, 1984 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Barbara and Kevin were best friends and shared a deep and abiding love. They were blessed with five wonderful children, James, Brooke, Chris, Craig, and Beth. Barbara was a wonderful, dedicated mother. She enjoyed helping children and worked at Orchard Elementary School as an office assistant and recess duty. Barbara enjoyed playing games and doing puzzles, especially Boggle with her friends. She was an excellent volleyball, basketball, and softball player.
Barbara was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a true disciple of Christ. She loved everyone and treated them with kindness.
Barbara is survived by her husband, her children, her granddaughter Hadley Meyer, her son-in-law Vince Meyer, her father Johnny Green, in-laws Leonard and Sandra Shurtleff, and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Lillian Green and her grandmother Virginia Sperry. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel, 575 East 800 North, Orem (red brick building, north side of the road). Family and friends may call on Friday, January 11 at the church from 6-8 pm and from 9:45-10:45 am prior to the service. Interment in the Orem City Cemetery
