Barton Eugene Dahneke's Obituary
Barton Eugene Dahneke, 81, of Provo, went to be with his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ on Monday, March 15, 2021, with his family by his side. He was born April 4, 1939, in San Jose, CA to the late Marshall Harry and Alice Philpott Dahneke.
Barton was a loving husband, father, Poppa, and brother. He and his wife enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage together, forty-four of those in Palmyra, New York, raising their children on a beautiful 50-acre farm.
Barton had a PhD in engineering and pursued physics with a passion throughout his professional career and into retirement. He was dedicated to his research and it was common to find him with a pad of paper covered in equations (without numbers). He was the holder of many patents and authored a memoir where his knowledge of physics, along with renowned scientists of the past, and their belief in God combine in harmony.
He loved reading books and watching movies. When a movie was particularly funny, he laughed so hard his face turned red, his body shook, and no sound came out. He had a love of music across many genres and particularly enjoyed classical and jazz.
Barton’s greatest treasure was his grandchildren. He devoted countless hours to stroller rides with ice cream, watching exciting construction trucks, narrating book after book at bedtime, and throwing rocks into all types of water, including explaining science concepts — he taught so well to their parents — to create the best possible rock skips. With his grandchildren scattered around the globe, there was no baptism or important life event too far to attend.
He carried that same energy into his volunteer activities in his church community, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In addition to his parents, Barton was preceded in death by his only sibling, Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Scott Dahneke, of Provo, seven children and their spouses, twenty-eight grandchildren, six grandchildren-in-law, and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Edgemont South Stake Center, 350 E 2950 N, Provo, UT 84604. Please join us in person or virtually at: https://mywebcast.churchofjesuschrist.org/Events/provoutahedgemontsouthstake
