Betty Glad's Obituary
Betty Glad
“I’m not always happy but I’m always Glad!”
The last leaf on the Collard family tree has returned home. Our matriarch, Betty Lou Collard Gaffney Glad, passed away, surrounded by her loved ones, on October 27, 2024 after spending 10 days in the hospital due to a broken hip.
Born on July 25, 1933, Betty was raised in Huntsville, Utah. She learned many life lessons as a hand at her father’s sheep camp, where she rode horses bareback, cooked on the camp stove and rescued bum lambs to bottle feed at home until they were ready to return to the herd. Her own horse, Midnight, carried Betty as she reigned in the Days of ‘47 royalty and marched in local parades.
As a young woman, Betty met and fell in love with Patrick Leo Gaffney. They were married and raised their 3 children in Magna. Betty became a widow at age 30, when Patrick was tragically killed while working at Kennecott Copper. She then married Bruce Glad, welcoming his 3 grown children, (Doug, Dwayne and Melvin), and their children and grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, W.O. and Lewgweneth Collard and 12 siblings, Prue, Wells (Isabell), Patricia Fern (Dale), Loyal (Thelma), Ruth (Sterling), Earl (Ruth), Clyde (Eleanor), Roy (Kay), Steve (Vivian), Joe (Sandy), Bonnie (Joe) and David O. She is survived by her children, Sherrie Camberlango (Marty), Terry Gaffney (Kim), Pat Bench (Curt, deceased.), and sister-in-law, Sandy Collard (Joe).
Betty was a devoted caregiver to her parents in their later years. She was adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took in anyone, caring for friends, neighbors and strangers alike. There was always a seat at her table where she was known to be serving up delicious home cooking, always on a hot plate!
The shepherd has called Betty home and we are grateful she has returned to her flock.
