Betty Wire Halverson's Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of Betty Halverson aka Betty
H. Her generosity and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many. Betty was born April 15,1937 and passed April 26, 2026. She was 89 years old.
Betty grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. She loved being a New Orleanian and would cook any one of a number of local favorites for anyone who asked or didn’t ask. She loved parties, she loved her friends and family, she loved art, she loved big. Betty was very opinionated and direct. Many heard her truth through her well crafted stories. People either loved her or were offended by her, we never
encountered anyone that felt lukewarm about her! Her expression of truth was one of her greatest assets.
Betty is survived by her son, Rick and daughter, Christy. She loved her grandchildren Shay and Frank and bragged of them, often. She married the love of her life, Dean Halverson who passed in 2010. They were married for over 30 years and had many adventures together. Dean’s daughter, Erin, held a special place in Betty’s heart as did her husband Carl and their two beautiful daughters, Lene and Kate.
Betty’s sisters and baby brother had a colorful childhood in New Orleans. Her stories of her childhood were rich in love and tradition. Betty was the oldest, then came Mae, Sissy, Jackie and the only boy, David. Her Aunt Red stepped in to raise them with her only daughter Mae. Her stories were filled with humor, childhood pranks and love.
Betty’s friends were family and they helped each other in every phase of their adult life. Betty and Dean found a new life in Alcoholic’s Anonymous in 1983. They sobered and stayed that way. Their stories have helped many people lead a sober and happy life. Stories of Ella, their AA family in Many, Louisiana, moving to SLC in 1988, going to retreats with Meg, Deb, Kath, Peggy, Tom W, Jim H, John, Kathy, Linda,
Ron, Ann, Ray, Don, the Lafayette boys and so many more. She loved and regarded as family Whitney, Josh, Ramsey, Elijah, Violet, Caryanna, Dianne B and Tonuah N.
Betty leaves behind cherished memories, lasting legacies, and a community grateful for the time shared together. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing.
