Bonnie Jean Thornton Meyerson's Obituary
Bonnie Jean Thornton Meyerson, 71, of Lehi, UT, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving children. Born September 29, 1954, in Inglewood, CA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Levi and Donna Pinnock Thornton, both originally from Idaho.
She attended Buena Park High School, class of 1972, where she was involved in cabinet and journalism and was a pep song leader. She attended Brigham Young University, majoring in elementary education. She was an avid BYU sports fan.Â
Bonnie loved visiting her grandparents’ farm in Rigby, ID, as a child, and tried to visit as often as possible as an adult, keeping in touch with her Idaho cousins. She was an ardent animal lover, a passion she attributes to the farm. As a teen, she always had Fun, Fun, Fun driving her father’s Thunderbird with her friends in tow, hitting nearby beaches, letting her long, blonde hair flow in the wind with the top down, mimicking a certain song by the Beach Boys. She was also a fan of the Monkees.Â
She was the beloved wife of Michael F. Meyerson, her childhood sweetheart, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 8. Active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they were sealed in the Los Angeles California Temple in 1976, when Mike returned home from his mission in Denmark. Together they raised four children.Â
Above all else, Bonnie loved being a mother. She was a talented homemaker, loved sewing, crafts, flowers, gardening, reading, bird watching, and decorating her many homes in CA, PA, and UT. She supported her children’s activities and sports. She spent many hours at show choir performances, on baseball fields and soccer fields and poolside at water polo tournaments. She frequently served as team mom or on the PTA.
She loved to travel. She saw France, the Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand supporting her son Travis’s show choir. She continued to visit California and the East Coast frequently after moving, and also frequented Idaho. She has said the most beautiful country she visited was New Zealand, but her favorite place ever was Scotland, which she visited with her husband and children in 2023. It was the dream trip of her life, touring England, Scotland, Denmark, and Sweden. And no matter where Bonnie traveled, she always found a dog to pet.
In 1997 her family moved from Chula Vista, CA, to Hatfield, PA. Though a life-long Californian, she adored living in PA, with the different climate and foliage. While there she worked as a librarian for North Penn High School, a job she cherished, as well as the friends she made at school and church. In 2005, she and her husband moved to Sandy, UT, and Bonnie, once again, pursued a career as librarian for American Preparatory Academy in West Valley City, until she retired in 2019. She was also able to teach classes and ESL at APA. It was her dream job.
She served in Relief Societies, Young Women, and Primaries from coast to coast for her church, and joined her husband in ministering to the Cedar Wood Assisted Living Community while living in Sandy.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Derek Meyerson; her grandson, Jacob Meyerson; and her brother, Ronald Thornton.
She is survived by her children: Travis (Amber) Meyerson, of Princeton, NJ; Chad (Meagan) Meyerson, of Smithfield, UT; Jodi (Kawai) Goodman, of Lehi, UT; and daughter-in-law Betsy Meyerson, of Hudson, OH; grandchildren: Alexis and Lucy Meyerson; Ashlin (Matthew) Christensen; Tayley and Ayden Meyerson; Olivia Meyerson; Kate, Kai, and Lily Goodman; nieces Robin Thornton of Orem, UT; and Amber Bell, of New Mexico; and nephew Jason Thornton, of Orem, UT.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the LDS Chapel at 750 W 4050 N in Lehi on June 6 at 5pm. Funeral arrangements are through Premiere Funeral Services of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bonnie loved all flowers, but especially sunflowers and daisies. If desired, donations to support a memorial bench at a new Lehi dog park can be sent to the Venmo: jodi-goodman.
