Carol Anne DeAdder's Obituary
Our sorrow was mingled with peace and rest for Carol DeAdder as she fulfilled her time on earth on January 16, 2024 due to cancer. Carol Anne entered this life on August 4, 1942 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to the enormous rejoicing of her parents, T. Ralph and Mary Louise Cheney LeBaron, subsequent to the births of one daughter followed by seven boys. One more brother followed and she spent her childhood as the “baby princess” of the large, joyful family in the prairie hamlet of Barnwell. She had a knack for making friends and writing clever poems, and her prized possession was her large collection of baby dolls, which she cared for in a play house built by her father.
During high school Carol moved to Salt Lake City to live with her beloved sister, Louise. She graduated from Granger High in 1960 and attended BYU. In 1961 Carol married her high school sweetheart, John C. Hendrix, in the LDS Alberta temple. She worked as a seamstress at Barbizon of Utah for several years and they made a home on Grandview Hill in Provo, Utah. The dream of her heart was to fill their home with children and they were blessed by the births of four babies. Carol and John loved spending time in the mountains with their kids and camping with extended family. The pair remained friendly though their marriage ended in divorce, and four more children would thrill Carol’s heart after she married Melvin Tiemann.
While living in beautiful Salem, Oregon, Carol enjoyed a closeness to the ocean and new friendships that would last her lifetime. She found happiness in quietly serving in church and her neighborhood without seeking recognition. Homemade valentines, heartfelt birthday cards and baked goods like her legendary orange cinnamon rolls were some of her specialties. Texas and Arizona were also home before this marriage was dissolved and Carol moved her children back to the familiar mountains of Provo and Orem in 1987.
Carol was a lifelong learner and determinedly faced the challenge of supporting her kids as a single parent while remaining available to them. She trained as a medical assistant and worked as a secretary on UVRMC’s maternity unit for 18 years where she got to love many more babies. In her spare time she enjoyed attending the temple and genealogy research, baking, wreath making, and teaching primary children at church, always with personally illustrated stories. She earned the moniker “the gum lady” by bringing fruity chewing gum for children willing to be quizzed on scripture stories and life lessons after church. Sometimes ten kids would crowd around waiting their turns.
Though she hadn’t planned to marry again, in 2006, Carol was won over by the kindness of Stanley DeAdder who was also Canadian by birth and shared her love of family history. She was charmed by the beauty of Stan’s native Nova Scotia and his wonderful family. The couple was delighted to serve an 18-month family history mission together in Orem. They enjoyed playing cards with friends and she finally learned to love watching the BYU Cougars and the Utah Jazz with Stan’s coaching. Carol experienced a sweet season of retirement as a grandma, doting on absolutely everyone with her homemade donuts, famous chocolate chip cookies and handmade birthday posters. She spent hours planning special events and gifts for her grandchildren, baking with them in her kitchen and sending them loving remembrances in the mail.
Carol took the time to get to know people, regardless of their age or station in life, and would remember the details of their stories. She was a devoted journal keeper, and seeker of knowledge and self improvement. During her last two years she spent four full days of each week serving in her beloved Provo temple. She was a woman of tremendous faith and patience and occasional mischief, just to keep life interesting.
Carol’s children express sincere gratitude for her nurses, Rosa and Randi from Serenity Hospice, and all of her medtechs and CNAs at Spring Gardens who truly cared about her and our family.
Our cherished mama was preceded in death by her husband Stan, her parents, and eight siblings: Louise Harmon (Keith); Donald (RoseMary); Gordon (Idale); Theron (Betty); Francis (Veda); David (Lindalie); Norman (Janeal); and Brent (Jan). She is survived by her brother, Richard, and her eight children, Cathy Colton (Alan); Ron Hendrix (Shannon); Greg Hendrix (Angela); Julie Palmer (Steve); Paul Tiemann (Mary Ann); Missy Hardman (Ryan); Todd Tiemann (Jessica); and Matthew Tiemann (Courtney); as well as 30 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In addition, Carol is survived by her seven bonus children, Chris DeAdder (Karen); Kim-michelle Pullan (Scott); Stefani Ellison (Stephen); Kevin DeAdder; Craig DeAdder (Stephanie); Tyler DeAdder; and Tiffani Ericksen (Michael); 32 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren whom she treasured.
Your life was woven around us and you meant the world to us, Mom. The reminiscence of your smile and warm embrace will linger in our hearts til we meet again.
