Captain Cecil Evans Hutchings World War II and Korean War Veteran 1922-2014
Cecil Evans Hutchings, 91, of Mapleton, UT, passed away the 25th of January, 2014. He was born on March 13, 1922 to William Willard Hutchings and Emma Whitehead in Preston, Nevada. He grew up there and graduated from Lund High School. He was an all-state basketball star and learned the hard ways of farming and ranching. In 1943 he enlisted as a naval pilot in support the efforts of WWII. Throughout his 29 years of active duty as a naval pilot he fulfilled many assignments, including missions in the Korean War. He retired in1971 at the rank of Captain. He married his eternal companion, Margaret Aleen Madsen in 1944 and together they spent a career in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve. After retiring, they moved to Mapleton, Utah in 1976. He has served on the City Council and on the Board of Adjustments. His second home was on Hobble Creek Golf course, was a Utah Jazz fan, a BYU Cougar club member, and thoroughly enjoyed the creation of many close friendships there. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Aleen in December 2013, daughter Margaret Ann, and 2 grandsons. He is survived by his sons Dennis Hutchings and Steven Hutchings; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, Febuary 8th, 2014 in the LDS Chapel at 1580 North Main, Mapleton, UT. Viewing will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be afterwards in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
