Charlene Kay Padgett Normann's Obituary
Charlene Kay Padgett Normann, 54, passed away peacefully at home in Kaysville, Utah, on November 15 following a courageous 14 month battle with a rare aggressive lymphoma. She was born February 3, 1967 to George and Jamie Lou Padgett in Saint Cloud, Florida, and later graduated from St. Cloud High School.
She graduated from Belmont College in Nashville, TN, where she pitched new songs to famous musicians in the country music industry. Her career path shifted to service, specifically to help individuals find work. Charlee managed Manpower offices in Forest City, NC, and Ogden, UT. She loved working with people with disabilities and worked in sales with Columbus Community Center, which helps people with disabilities to live fulfilling lives. For nine years in that role, she negotiated contracts for disabled workers to shred documents and perform various occupational tasks for corporations. For six years, she also chaired the Utah Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.
As much as she loved helping people with disabilities to find jobs and to learn social or life skills, Charlee turned away from her passion for the opportunity to be a mother. We will always remember how much Charlee wanted to raise her own children and how much she loved them. She was forever learning, listening, leading, laughing, loving, and living in the moment . . . all while executing the myriad details of life with self-confidence.
Charlee was fanatical about James Bond. Between new movie releases, you could find her camping, singing, recreational shooting, beekeeping, gardening, appreciating a good joke, and finding charming ways to say things bluntly.
Charlee never met a stranger because she could talk to anyone. To her, every person in the world was just a friend she hadn't met yet. Charlee believed that most of the time, it doesn’t hurt to acknowledge other people even if it’s just “hello” or a nod of greeting. Life is too short. In each of these instances, the fact that she was not afraid of anything was her enabling superpower.
To say that she was hardworking fails to give a true impression of Charlee tirelessly working seven days a week overseeing the organizational, day-to-day operations of her home, addressing the needs of her family, investing priceless time with her children and husband, and caring for others.
She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Steve Normann of Kaysville, children Gregory and Samantha Normann, mother Jamie Lou Alcorn Padgett of Kaysville, and sister Julie (Peter) Lindsay, of Greensboro, North Carolina. Her father, George Padgett, preceded her in death in April of this year.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 20th, at 2pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1085 North 50 East in Kaysville. Refreshments will follow, and all are welcome to stay and mingle.
