Charles Edwin (Pietramala) Dover's Obituary
Charles Edwin (Pietramala) Dover
Nov. 26, 1929 - May 23, 2022
It is time to say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Charles E. Dover who passed away May 23, 2022. Chuck lived a full life and he was an inspiration to all who knew him. His most important role was being a husband to Edie. He cherished his wife above all else in the world. They virtually were constant companions throughout their 71 years of marriage.
He was born November 26, 1929 to Frank Robert Dover and Ella Stobbe Dover. Chuck struggled in his childhood years. His parents divorced when he was 4 years old so he moved in with his grandparents, John Henry Stobbe and Marie Theresa Stobbe, who raised him. He grew up quickly and after graduating from East High School, he joined the United States Navy at 17 years of age.
He enjoyed his years in the service seeing many ports like Saipan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Pearl Harbor. He served on three ships the USS St Paul, the Kepler and the Springfield. Soon after returning home from the service he met the love of his life, Edythe Rose Pietramala, at Salt Lake Area Vocational School; today called Salt Lake Community College. They married September 2, 1950. Chuck found great joy in his large inherited Italian family and he especially loved Big Mama and Papa. He considered them his parents.
Chuck worked for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph, later called, Mountain Bell where he retired after 33 years of service at the age of 54. He and Edie spent 37 wonderful years of retirement. They traveled the world and especially enjoyed Europe. Stateside, they traveled for many years in their motor home visiting all the western states, Canada and Mexico. In later years, they enjoyed spending time at vacation homes in Manila, and St George, Utah.
For many years Chuck embraced the Catholic Church and together with Edie they visited many holy sites; the Vatican, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Lourdes, Turin, and Medugorje. At 81 years of age he decided to make it official and was baptized by Msgr. Robert Servatius. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed traveling to national conventions with his son.
He was most happy spending time with family and creating lasting traditions and memories; like Christmas parties, summer picnics, and family reunions. Both Chuck and Edie enjoyed a simple visit or a family dinner any time. Chuck and Edie are the proud parents of three children; Chuck Dover Jr. (Tina), JoAnn Bussell (Carlos), and DiAnn Calacino (Angelo). They have nine grandchildren; Jennifer Godfrey (Greg), Carla Ackerman (Clint), Brandon Bussell (Chad Spackman); Dan Bussell (Aurora), John Dover (Katie), Adelina Littler (Brad), Andrea Dover (Steve Gunn), Nic Calacino, and Danielle Calacino. They have nine cherished great grandchildren; Kendel, Sadie, Asher, Ellie, Alexander, Cyrus, Kaleb, Elio and Zoe.
Charles leaves behind his wife and family, beloved nephew, John LaLonde and brother, Bill Cupit. The family is so very thankful for Fr. Dominic Briese, pastor at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church; his amazing compassionate caregivers, Holly and Michelle for the past 2 years from Active Home Health Care; and all of his relatives, friends and neighbors for their many thoughts and prayers.
