Constance "Connie" Sue Koenemann's Obituary
Constance (Connie) S Koenemann passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at home on June 3, 2022. Born June 24, 1947, in Decatur Indiana to Robert and Paula Koenemann. She married Jan Campa.
Connie was raised and educated in Ohio in a German Lutheran farming community. She was schooled in a one room parochial schoolhouse for 8 years. She graduated from Bowling Green State university in 1969 with a BS in Psychology. She lived in Boston, Virginia and North Carolina before relocating to Utah in 1995. She moved to Utah not knowing anyone but now has the most loving family and friends in the world. Connie worked in public welfare and for Phillip Morris company before getting a degree in accounting where she retired as a CPA in both industry and public accounting after 25 years. She joined Intermountain Therapy Animals in 2000. The best years of her life were after her retirement in 2011 when she became a volunteer, at that time she was able to serve her fellow humans alongside of her therapy animals, Sadie and Blue Velvet. She wouldn’t have traded those years for anything. She served countless hours for ITA, Bristol Hospice and the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans home where she made forever friends.
Although Connie never wanted any recognition for her volunteer service, she selflessly gave over 2600 hours of her time to others. In late 2021 Connie was nominated for NHPCO’s volunteer of the year award, during that time she was asked what being a volunteer meant to her, she replied “Through volunteering, I’ve learned to listen more, to hear some of the emotions behind the words. I’ve learned that sometimes the best thing we can say is nothing, that silence together might be more important. I’ve learned that everyone has his own way of thinking and doing, and that’s ok. In being present while other people go through some of life’s crises. I’ve watched them rise to meet their difficulty, seen them grow; this has strengthened my faith in humanity. There have been a wealth of experiences, and this has broadened and enriched me, leading towards tolerance and acceptance. And over time, I believe it has tempered my character and refined my spirit, helping me be a more compassionate individual.”
She was a member of Eckankar, the path of spiritual freedom, for over 30 years. Eckankar teaches that the primary purpose of our lifetime on Earth is to learn to give and receive love.
She is survived by her husband, sister Elaine (Chuck)Fischer of Indiana, sister Leta Schieber of North Carolina, nieces Lori and Susan Fischer of Illinois, Carla Smith of Ohio, nephews Jason Schieber of Virginia and Chan Schieber currently deployed to Jordan.
Connie’s faithful companion of 14 years, Blue Velvet joined Connie on the other side just a few short hours after Connie took her last breath.
Connie was Preceded in death by her parents and many friends that she helped transition to the other side.
