D Howard Madsen's Obituary
D Howard “Bo” Madsen
D Howard ‘Bo’ Madsen, age 73, passed away at his home in Sunset, UT on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2024.
Howard was born on March 20, 1951 to Arnold and Lillie Madsen in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Viewmont High School in 1969, attended Utah State University where he enjoyed participating on the wrestling team, and soon after joined the United States Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge, he then returned to Utah.
He met his eternal companion one evening when his car broke down and his sister Karen and her friend came to pick him up. As he got in the car, he glanced back and immediately fell for Connie Lou Jackson who became the love of his life. They enjoyed a two-year courtship, including four engagements due to indecision of the wedding venue, and they were finally sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 1, 1974 and their family grew in grand Utah fashion to total six children.
Howard began pursuing his career with the Utah Highway Patrol in 1978 and retired in 2005 as a sergeant, followed by several years as a Summit County dispatcher. He developed characteristics of leadership, determination, and authenticity, which guided him to several positions in civil service. He served as the Mayor of Coalville City from 2002 to 2006 and later became the mayor of Sunset City in 2018 until the time of his death.
He had wide and varied interests including golf, riding motorcycles, intarsia, target shooting, watching movies, making jewelry, and combing Oregon beaches for agates. He also took great pleasure in taking his family camping and exploring the Uinta mountains on ATVs.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lillie Madsen, his half-brother Arnold Madsen, and his half-sisters Arlene, Judy, Karen and Linda. He is survived by his wife of 49 and a half years, Connie Jackson Madsen, his children Molly Kirk (Jake - deceased), Andrew Madsen (Emily), Rachel Orgill (Kirk), Jenny Adams (Samuel), Kathryn Dailey (Tyson), and Sara Harmon (Shawn), 30 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
