Dale Edward Anderson's Obituary
Dale Edward Anderson, 89, of Salt Lake City, Utah, took one last hike. While walking in the foothills behind his home he suffered a brain hemorrhage, soon after, on August 17, 2016, he peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Dale was born on May 28, 1927 the oldest of three children, to Bunyan Edward Jr. & Ethel Anderson (Nee Eveson) in LaGrande, Oregon. Brothers include Bruce Haven Anderson (deceased) and James Stephen Batley. Dale grew up in the Salt Lake City Avenues’ neighborhood and graduated from West High School.
In 1945, Dale joined the Navy and trained to be an electronics technician Mate Third Class. In 1946, Dale attended the University of Utah on the GI Bill for two years before being called to serve an LDS mission to France (including Belgium and Switzerland). Afterwards, Dale attended the University of Sorbonne in Paris, France. In 1953, Dale obtained his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Utah with honors.
In 1954, Dale married Renee Edwards in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 44 years and raised eight beautiful children.
In 1958, Dale obtained his J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law, and in 1959, graduated with a Master of Laws (in Taxation) from New York University School of Law. Dale’s professional career included working for the U.S General Accounting Office in SLC; Wood, Child, Mann, and Smith CPA Firm; Department of Justice Tax Division in Washington DC; Fabian and Clendenin Law Firm; Jelco Construction Company-(in house counsel); and then started his own law practice full-time in 1983.
In 1997, Dale and Renee were called to serve an LDS Senior Couple's mission to Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Africa. Tragically, Renee died in an automobile accident while serving.
In 2000, Dale met and married Barbara Stewart in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had many wonderful adventures together over the last 16+ years.
Dale’s love for adventure fueled his passion for travel and allowed him to see every corner of the globe. He appreciated the arts, nature’s beauty, hiking and gardening. Dale was an avid tennis player and could be seen playing on the courts four to five times a week. He was known for his intelligence, persistence, stubbornness, and his ability to articulate.
Above all, Dale’s greatest and most important accomplishment was his love and commitment to his family. Dale was large in stature and his heart was just as big. He opened his home to multiple friends and acquaintances that needed a safe and welcoming place. Dale loved people.
Dale is survived by his loving wife Barbara Stewart Anderson, and his brother James Batley. Dale’s children: Laurie (James) Butler, Tad (Ellen) Anderson, Karen Anderson, Tamara (David) Harper, Robyn Hoffman, Kristin (J. Patrick III) Craddock, Toni Anderson, Gary (BreAnne) Anderson. He has 19 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 stepchildren: Rudy, Rory and Jonna Uibel.
Friends and family may call at Emigration Sixth Ward, 589 E. 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sunday, August 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and also on Monday, August 22, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon. Internment in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
